They have one of these on sale at the Yamaha dealer, which they desperately want to unload since it sounds better than all of their keyboards.

Is it a discontinued model? As I stumble drunkenly through the internet trying to get a CLUE what is up with digital pianos, it SEEMS like this is an earlier version of the HPi7s...

If so, would it be a good deal? Supposedly they will sell it to me for about at a discount at $3900, meaning they'd be happy to get $2900.

Since I'm exercising my woman's perogative to change my mind hourly, I'm becoming infatuated with the Roland intelligent pianos, since somebody in my home will need that quality when entering the digital world.

The KR-575 is a predecessor to the current KR and HPi models. It was introduced at the 1998 summer NAMM show and produced until 2002-2003, I think. It is an excellent instrument, but the action and piano samples are from the previous Roland generation, so not completely up to date--as you'd expect from a 10-year old instrument. The arrangement, teaching and accompaniment features are similar to the newer KR and HPi models.

You can get a brand new HP-207 (or a newer HPi/KR model) for $3000 or so, so the price that they're quoting sounds a little high, even if it's nearly new. I'd tell them how old it really is and see if you can't get a better deal.

A piano dealer is usually not a good place to buy used
pianos, because the prices will be high. You could get
this for $500, or even less, from a private party.
In any case, that's all you should pay for a 10 yr. old
digital piano, no matter what it sold for new, or how good
condition it is in, or if it plays like a brand new digital.
A digital piano is essentially a computer with a keyboard
and speakers, and it loses value fast like a used pc.
How much would a 10 yr. old pc be worth?

You'd have to pay me to take it. So the dealer never mentioned the DP was 10 years old. He never mentioned a lot of things. Hence, I will utilize his services to practice on the dozens of Yamaha keyboards, but buy elsewhere.
