This piano that you are referring to was built in late 2000.

It sure looks like a good deal to me. (I'm not actively shopping for another piano right now, but when the time comes I will be looking for a deal AT LEAST as good or better, as that piano (at its starting bid price) has raised the bar for me for minimum acceptable price to quality ratio.)

So would you mind looking closely at the picture-of the serial number? Why do you suppose the plate where the serial number is looks stapled on- and the wood cracked behind it- also what do you think of the pic of the crack in the leg? Thanks for your input-I'm a little skeptical

Don' worry about the serial number plate being stapled on. I own a piano identical to this one, down to the year, style and finish. My plate is also stapled on, and what you're seeing as a crack is actually the top of the lock mechanism on the side. This is definitely a 243HP --A.K.A. Baldwin Hamilton. $500 is incredibly cheap for this piano unless it has some major issues. Larry Larson

Have a Tech check the piano out before you buy. The price sends up red flags. Look how unevenly spaced the hammers are. The hammers will need to be shaped to remove the string grooves, then aligned properly to the strings. Some of the strings need alignment as well. If this piano has bad hammer shanks, the hammer alignment will change from summer to winter as the shanks twist with humidity changes. Even with those issues, $500 is a steal.
