Keep working. Keep saving. It's a rather simple formula, but it always works.
Some men are music lovers. Others make love without it.

Do you have a job? Do you have any marketable skills? Do you have a wealthy relative you could ask for a loan? Do you have good credit?
If it is any consolation to you, I’ve had difficulty getting money too. I have to work hard every week for small amounts at a time. Paid cash for my pre-owned grand though, and I love it!
Best of luck to you.

Here is the best way to save money:
Most of us think that to save money, we have to have some extra at the end of the month which we will deposit to our savings account, but unfortunately, we always end up drained by then. But that is the wrong way. To save, you have to set aside a portion of your income (say 10 or 20%) every month as soon as your paycheck comes. It's called the "Pay yourself first" principle. Treat it as a necessary expense, much like paying the rent.
Using this method, I was able to save up and buy gadgets/stuff I wanted even though I was poor exchange student with a meager stipend.

not enough to buy a piano?? what piano? Bossie ??
Try classified ads or flea market, maybe they have some cheap. I often come across free piano, which are in not so desirable state. But can be salvage with some time n effort.
Whats your situation? Student or already working but not enough spare saving?
Maybe we can start a donation drive. some donate hammer, some keys, could assemble a whole piano at the end.

Funny thread. If OP is genuinely that naive in the ways of the world, I'd be very surprised.

Find a dealer locally that will rent you one. This way you can have a piano and apply some of your rent toward the purchase, and it buys you time (with piano) where you can save for your purchase. It doesn't have to be the one you rent.

I have some spare bridle straps & front rail pinchings!
I'll figure it out eventually. Until then you may want to keep a safe distance. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.pianoworld.com/ABF_Medals/3medals.jpg)

Hi Zooplibob,... If you know programming,... here's a free idea for you,... Develop an iPhone app that will listen to a piano being played and come up with words describing its tone,... Here's a few to get you started: Bright, Mellow, Singing, Tubby, Nasaly, Ringing, Bell-Like, Warm, Dull, Full-Bodied, Demur, Sweet, Muffled, Refined, Silvery, Thin, Soft,... Read more PW posts and you'll get an almost unlimited supply You can even break it down further and provide one result for the bass and another for the treble,... You can also include samples matching each characteristic that people can listen to. This will help them develop a taste for what certain characteristics mean and what characteristics they like. Shoppers can even play samples matching the characteristics that they like to the piano salesman so the salesman can point them to the right pianos. I think there are many possibilities for future enhancements,... You may want to consult with forum 'experts' - dealers, pianists, authors, etc - to come up with your algorithm. When it's ready, buy an Ad from Frank and advertise it here! I would think that every forum member will be happy to pay $0.99 for such an app and I'm sure that they will also gladly recommend every new piano shoppers not to go shopping without this valuable app. Just don't forget to support PW when you make millions from this Regards, Robert

Zooplibob, If you are serious about wanting a piano, keep focused and present to every aspect of what it would be like to have a piano. Focus your thoughts in the direction of having enough money to buy the piano. Be very specific about it. What kind of piano would it be? How would it sound? Where would you put it? Some people call this the law of attraction; what you focus on comes to you. If we stay focused on what we want in life those things come to us. If we focus on what we don't have in life we never have what we want in life. All the best to you

Sorry, I'm just enjoying reading the response. The original post was definitely tongue in cheek, but I wanted to see what responses I would get. Lots of great advice and thoughtful comments. The original question was very naive sounding, but probably reflects the question most of us have deep down!

You've said you're going to buy a house mainly to house a grand piano. This sounds like a phase that young guys go through. I would take a step back and reconsider this carefully, both the house and the piano purchase.
