In my excitement I miscalculated the trade in price I received when I traded in my old digital as part of the purchase price for the CA78.

When I redid my calculation it brings the price up to $3850. Still a good deal I think!

Sorry if I got people excited and apologies for the error!

USER LOCATION: near Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
MAKE: Yamaha
MODEL: Avant Grand N3X
CONDITION: New*
PRICE PAID: US$17,398 total (breakdown: $15,990 for N3X, +$1,213 sales tax + delivery fee)
DELIVERY CHARGE: $195 (fully installed); included in price above.
VENDOR LOCATION: Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
VENDOR NAME: PianoWerkes **
PURCHASE DATE: March 2018

* It was unboxed just in time for a big weekend sale, but I'm probably the only one who played it. It was $16,400 in the sale, then they gave me an additional discount to $15,990 for some reason(!). Note that it took two burly guys and a truck to deliver it and even they struggled with the weight; the N3X is not something you want to "pickup"!
** Includes 100% 2-year equal trade up or greater original purchase value.

Note that they have an older Avant Grand N3 in the back warehouse; I saw it on sale for $12K last fall. Would probably do a good deal on it now.

Great piano, yes. But not such a great deal.
$16000 is basically the dealer's asking price, isn't it?
That's basically 20% off of MSRP.

There were four levels of pricing in their book; they gave me the lowest ($16,400) plus another $410 off that. From my research, I had seen a low price of $16K at Christmas sale, so I was happy. The highest/list price is $22K.

I think AG prices depend very heavily on manufacturer-sponsored sales. When I was researching, multiple dealers mentioned that as authorized Yamaha dealers, they were obligated to honor Yamaha's sale prices. This is what I saw recently, though the prices have gone up since January (as I suspect is the norm after holiday/Christmas sales):

[Linked Image]

Post-subsidized sales, $15.9 delivered for an N3X is a pretty good deal IMO. I wouldn't wait 9 months for a somewhat lower price, but I understand it's a privilege to have that position.

Well, being that this was only the second N3X this dealer was able to get, I wasn’t going to let it get away. NM is not a major market....!

Anyhooo, this thread is supposed to be about gathering data, not making buyers second guess the purchase price.

Costco is selling N3X at $14999 for regular price. N3X is $11000 at whole sale. If your seller offers price match, hope this info can help you get some money back.

Congrats on the N3X! I think you'll enjoy that for a long time to come.

I realized I never filled this out when I got the N2 last fall. Info below. I finally sold the YDP-181 last night for $950 (was asking 1050 on CL). I will miss the funky Guitar voice.

I didn't realize Costco sold the Yamaha pianos! Learn something new every day. I love Costco too. But looking at their schedule, they are not holding an event in New Mexico.
https://www.costco.com/yamaha-pianos-schedule.html

I'm touched that some are concerned that there was a better price out there, but I'm fine paying a little extra to a Yamaha acoustic piano store (small business) that has friendly and passionate owners. They stock a large number of acoustic and grand pianos for people to try and buy. Even though I buy most things online (I rely on Amazon a lot), I would hate to see piano stores like this go out of business. They are not like normal music stores that can survive selling guitar strings and gadgets - once you buy your piano, all you need is a tuner (which are not employees). A few sales per year makes their payroll. Plus, if anything goes wrong, they will send someone to check it out.

So at the end of the day, a thousand is not worth worrying about (our portfolio moves more than that during my practice hour...). And it was from a small inheritance so it felt like free money...! (Thanks Dad.) Plus, did I mention that it's a tax deduction?! (The benefits of being self-employed with a musical other half.)

I’m touched by your nobility: helping small businesses stay alive.
I wish I could do the same, but I’d rather buy a synthesizer, a stove, and a fridge with the extra dough.

How dare you pay so little to your local dealer!
What have you done with all that extra money? I hope you’re thinking about donating it to your local church!

Ha Ha, you are right not to worry about them staying in business. I almost got taken to the cleaners again if it wasn't for bSharp. I don't blame the buyer for getting a better deal at Costco. Yet, I believe the dealer could sell it at the same price and make a decent profit. It is just that Yamaha needs to support those dealers. Those guys bSharp bought his N2 from will be hurt by the event in Fountain Valley. No doubt.

That Way Madness Lies...! One reason I'm not going to dwell on the price difference is that it's water under the bridge. Plus I'm on such a high from playing the darn thing that I'm finding it hard to stop smiling. I'm even playing Chopin and Satie and other works that I shied away from on the DGX. I just wish it wasn't such a "dust magnet"...only a man with a housekeeper would design a piano in shiny black... I'm running an air filter for a few days to see if it will soak up some of the dust (and we haven't even entered the windy season).

Seriously though, if anyone does go to the Costco event, it would be interesting to see (a) what the wait time would be on an N3X and (b) what would the white-glove delivery fee be (it's not something you want delivered curbside).

I hear you on the dust magnet. It seems like I'm constantly cleaning the N2 and removing fingerprints ..

I plan to check out the warehouse in Fountain Valley in a couple of weeks. It will be fun just to look at things. I mentioned this to my teacher yesterday. She said that her experience at these Costco events is that the acoustic Yamahas are from the Indonesia plant. She doesn't ever recall finding one manafucatured elsewhere, e.g., Japan. I can't say if it's accurate or not. She couldn't say anything about the digitals though.

My local Yamaha dealer quoted me $15K+tax for N3X, and $8K+tax for N2. I went to see a Costco Yamaha event and was quoted the same for N3X and $11K+tax for N2. At the same event, they have other models at "costco" prices that I could order: my notes say GC2 grand for $20K, b3 upright for $6K.

Dealers can and will be competitive when there is competition.

11K for the N2 at Costco? That's way too much. I plan to go to the Yamaha event, maybe today or sometime this weekend.

It includes 19 % VAT and 150 € shipping. That would translate to some 6.807 € without tax and shipping.
But as I said, that was a more than special price because we had bought several (!) instruments in months before.
