Last night an elderly neighbour called to see my wife. Unfortunatly my wife was not home but I asked her in because it had just started to rain.

As she is also a keen piano student she asked how I was getting on and we both exchanged our experiences.

We went to the piano and I started to play here a few songs 'by ear' using the techniques I had been taught at PianoMagic. She said "You sound so beautiful, what are you doing? You'll have to give me a few lessons!"

I felt really good because as a student I was almost taking on the role as teacher, demonstrating a technique and planting a different kind of thought process in someone elses brain.

Wow! You impressed someone with your talent, and have given her motivation to start lessons! Good Job!

Perhaps this encounter could seriously alter the life of you both; maybe you'll find that teaching piano makes you happy. If she decides to learn through Piano Magic as well, you could be her tutor/study partner. But you'll first have to go on piano-shopping expeditions to the best piano shops across all of Europe! That would be fun! I think I'm getting ahead, but the daydreaming was funl

Good luck!

They will not be laughing when you sit down at the piano any more.

Great experience.

Monica, I played 'The Last Waltz'(Englebert Humperdink), 'Moon River' and 'Portrait' - a song by a Belfast born artist. I think I played well and she was very impressed. In particular, she was curious about my technique - something that PM members are all familiar with

I play well enough to impress a few folks, but I temper that with the realization that maybe one half of one percent of the population can play at all. I am not being negative with that thought, rather positive, play often where you can be seen as better than that 99 1/2 percent that can't. And yes, it does make one feel good to show his/her ability.

I also think that even beginners can be teachers where inspiration is concerned. It is rewarding to know that you have gotten someone started or shown something that was not previously known.

And you're in Ireland, which is magical even without piano!
