1} Need serial number to verify age
2} Have a Registered Piano Technician {RPT} check it out for you.
3} Probably a very very good deal would be to get it for nothing
4} Check Craigslist in your area to see the going prices.

I have asked for the serial number. They say it is 10 years old.
It is being offered for 10000. There are no comparisons for my area.

First, age really doesn't mean a lot to me. The condition and how well the piano has been maintained is always what I look for when I buy pianos. It truly is a buyer's market right now and you should be able to get a good buy. Just a general rule of thumb might be is 1/2 of what it would cost new, then adjust the price up or down relative to the condition, then make an offer.

Hi bugsnugs

Have you personally seen and played this particular RX-1?
Have you had an RPT check it out for you?
Why won't they give you the serial number? Who cares that they said it was 10 years old, lets find out for ourselves.
Is this a grey market piano?
Is the piano from a private seller?
Is the piano being sold by a factory Authorized Kawai dealer?
Is the piano being sold by an on line internet store dealer?

In my opinion, $10,000 is a steep price to pay for a 10+ year old RX-1. There are some very good selling prices these days, on brand new RX-1 Grands. Check it out.

Please keep us posted.

Sincerely,

Bear

Hi KeyDip,

Your profile shows that you are the:

It would be nice to have you put that info in your signature.

Just my .02 cents

Thanks,

Bear

Curious as to why you think that's important? My profile is open for anyone to check out. Don't necessarily think I need to make a self-important statement as to who I am. But, I'll take your 2 cents under advisement. smile

Hi KeyDip,

I only mentioned your signature because it's much easier for forum members to recognize an industry professional by seeing their signature, and not having to click on the profile section so often for info.

I didn't intend for my suggestion to mean that you should "necessarily think you need to make a self-important statement as to who you are." smile

Just my .03 cents {now adjusted upward due to inflation} laugh

Regards,

Bear

I am going to see the piano laterthis week hopefully. The alternative I have but more expensive, is an RX2 brand new from a dealer for 16000 with warranty.
The RX1 is from a private sale.

Bugsnugs,

I assume you mean US$16,000 (as opposed to ₤16,000) for the new RX-2. That strikes me as a quite a good deal, considering the list price of a brand new RX-2 here in the United Kingdom is ₤17,000 (nearly US$25,000 at today's FX rate). I don't know what the list price of a brand new RX-2 is in the United States, but I'm sure Bear will help us out!

Cheers

I do not think we can compare the prices to UK prices,. It is more expensive there for the same thing. ( I was from the UK and see it in many things)

2353815.
This is the serial number of the RX1.

Can someone verify its age?

I really want a good deal as as you said , it is a buyers market right now and I waited my whole life to buy a piano.

Piano looks like it was built in 1999.

Thanks Bear.

So at what price do you think a very good condition RX1 would be reasonable if 10 years old?

Secondly, other than Yamaha , any other brands that you would consider in this price range....10 -15K (dollars)

Hi bugsnugs,

Since I don't know where you live, I don't know what the going prices are in your market area for a nice RX-1 . I would just be guessing.

However, regarding your $10K - $15K budget, There are many many pianos in that price range and I wouldn't limit the search to just Kawai and Yamaha.

Best advice I can give you is to play every piano, both new and used, that you can get your hands on.
Choose the one you like best regardless of brand and model, then buy it.
You'll ultimately be a happy person when you buy what you like best.

Opinions regarding various brands and models are subjective and sometimes confuse the consumer's search for the piano that would be best for that particular person's wants and needs. Trust your own hands and ears to make your selection.

Good luck with whatever piano you buy.

Regards,

Bear
