Hi,

Today I went to a pianostore looking for a new DP.
After I told the salesman I was mostly interested by the action/feel of the keyboard he really pushed me towards the Rolands (other brand was Yamaha).
I tried the HP-207 and really liked it.
Question, for those of you who bough a HP-20x recently, did you get a matching bench? I mean the same type of bench as in the brochure, not a bench that the salesman quickly tried to colormatch.. smile
Also, would the store unpack the piano for you *before* delivery? "Just to check that everything's ok". That makes me dubious and concerned I would get a second hand piano, or a floor model... I just don't know if that's common practice.

Thanks!

I know the Yamahas can be bought "in a box, some assembly required". I suppose the Rolands are the same.

I'm guessing that you're visiting a piano dealer, not a music store, right? (I wouldn't buy a floor model from a music store. Not ever. Not for 2 cents. They have too much traffic to trust a floor model.)

Large dealers may have many DPs assembled, on the showroom floor, and they may see little use. But they have acoustic pianos there too, right? You'd buy one of those, even knowing that someone else has had their fingers on it, right?

Small dealers may have just a few DPs, and these few tryouts might be more heavily used.

Well, you have to negotiate a deal on the high-end DPs anyway, so include the "floor model" aspect in your thinking.

BTW, the bench should be original. If not, push the price down even lower. (Kinda makes me wonder about the dealer, though. How hard is it to provide the factory-original bench?)

Every high-end Roland and Yamaha that I've seen includes a bench (specifically made by Roland for each model). As for unpacking before delivery, this is possible if they want to check it over, but it is a little unusual. All I can say is that if you don't trust the dealer, either go somewhere else, or negotiate hard.

On the other hand, I second the recommendation on the HP-20x line (HP-207 especially). If you get one, you should be very happy with it.

Yes, this was a piano dealer.
I've never looked into acoustics, and I don't know if you buy the floor model (like cars) or if you get a brand new model. Either way, I was expecting a brand new model, in a sealed box for a digital.
The whole thing about unpacking the box before, and not having a real matching bench makes me suspicious.. I think I will check other dealers.

The thing that makes it hard to leave this deal behind, is that the salesman was throwing in the floppy reader for free! (I am not kidding :))

When my DP was delivered (kawai ca 51) it was in a sealed box, with all cables in plastic packing. I think that when they sell a floor model they give it as is. If they have to repack a floor model and unpack a new one to replace it in the store, I think that they will lost much time and that you could see that the model was allready used.

For an acoustic I understand that it's always a floor model because each pianos are different and thus you get what you tried.
