I am looking forward to hear more pianists play on Estonia and recorded.

Does anyone knows of recording on Estonia piano by these artists:

- Stephen Hough
- Christina Ortiz
- Pierce Lane
- Marc Andre Hamelin (an owner of Estonia himself)

or any other pianist beside what Schwammerl had above?

Love to hear and see how an Estonia concert grand will sound especially under the dare-devil speed and articulation of Hough.

The last time I heard Hough performed in the Orpheum, he was sweating profusely, and ... (it was probably just my ears not functioning well that day) ... didn't seem the grand at the Orpheum cooperated with him that day either.

My Estonia is just over 3 years old and ever so much better than when it was new-born. You chose well.

You will be 10 years older, ten years from now, no matter what you do - so go for it!

Since we have become Estonia dealers over 10 years ago, this was one of the most recurring themes we heard from our customers since.

Virtually over and over again.....

akuyek,

I know there is a recording that Marc-Andre Hamelin did on the Estonia 190, because I set the whole event up here in Philadelphia.

Although we had carried the Estonia for a few years, we considered this concert the "official" welcome of the Estonia piano to the Philadelphia Music Scene. It was not long after he chose his Estonia 190 here - and followed up "An intimate evening with Marc Andre Hamelin" that we had hosted a few months earlier (That event was attended by several PW members that are still active).

He was accompanying his wife, Jodi Applebaum, in a collaboration.

They recorded a group of cabaret songs and although Marc plays flawlessly, the repertoire is not the Busoni Piano Concerto. Check out a review here:

review of the recording

They credit Estonia and Cunningham on the label and at least locally, this event generated alot of attention for the Estonia piano.

I hope you pick up the CD. You'll enjoy it.

Rich G.,

Thanks for the links, and the background, I admired Hamelin for his courage reviving those rarely played repertoire, I would search for the recordings - tried the link http://www.audaud.com/article.php?ArticleID=2334, today at different times, never worked.

Can you please refer any other websites or the name of the CD? I know Hyperion is the exlusive recording company for Hamelin but doubt if any of their recording was on Estonia piano .

teachum,

Thanks for complimenting my 11 yo daughter's choice, she was quite single minded on that choice... got to admit if I was the one to choose, at that moment I'd pick the Sauter ... but the piano was a gift from her grandparents so she got the voting right, not me .... and fortunately so.

.... not many piano can sound mesmerizing with only a note played ...

Norbert,

How about that Penguin Estonia ice cream as mentioned by PianoTrucker?

We'll be in Europe this December, hopefully there is time to squeeze in a visit to the Estonia piano factory, would be good for my daughter to see how her best friend was "conceived and born"

Sir Lurksalot,

Left a message today on the Consonant's 800 number to request for the CDs- great price as long as the shipping price did not add a bulk - thanks for the link.

It looks like as if the recording had been done quite some years ago - do you know if it has decent sound quality?

I was there! Bought the CD! (Didn't get the T-shirt, though!) And it was, indeed, a memorable evening and a lot of fun.

Hi akuyek,

I’ll discuss the recordings listed on the left side of the website, where it says “5 New CD’s Available!” I own four of them – having received two of them from Dr. Laul, and two more as a gift from a vendor at work, who had no idea that I own an Estonia which Dr. Laul has played it in my home (some coincidence!)

The first two CD’s are the same recordings as the 2-disc CD that’s advertised on the main portion of the website. They’ve simply split the two-disc set into two one-disc sets. I don’t have it in front of me right now, but I’m pretty sure that one or two of these four concertos are recorded on a Steinway, while the others are recorded on an Estonia concert grand. These four concertos are the oldest recordings. I’m no audiophile, but they sound fine to me.

The Beethoven CD is probably my favorite. In addition to the wonderful music (the choir is conducted by Dr. Laul’s father – a professional choirmaster) I found the liner notes to be the most interesting of all the CD’s, all of which contain very nice liner notes. This is a fairly recent recording and again the sound is fine. I would also say the same thing about the Liszt discs, one of which I have. All three of these are recorded on Estonia concert grands.

I second BruceD's advice. Don't let your little one grow up thinking that conception involves a rim press and a kiln.
