I recently bought a Yamaha WX-3 52 inch upright(WX-3 5002021) and want to learn more about it. I was told it was built around 1990 to higher standards than the U3, but can find little mention of it on the web. I found some re-sales information in Singapore, but no mention in the USA.

Any help would be appreciated.

The claim built to "higher standards" is always intriguing.

Any examples to show why this model was supposed to be built to "higher standards"?

Sincerely curious.

Quoting his sales info,

"The Yamaha "X" series Professional Upright Pianos are for those who want a serious replacement for their small grand pianos. These pianos are a significant jump over the U1 and U3 pianos. They have a star shaped back frame to better balance the overall tension. Hammers are made of a higher quality felt from both Yamaha and Renner of Germany, and the scaling of the strings are a slight improvement from the U series pianos. The action has a more precise feel to it, contributing to a more lively and controlled response. There is a tone escapement slot in the front cover of the cabinet for increased clarity."

Thats a great piano!.You don't see that many in the marketplace.
I've had a few preowned WX-7 which had a few upgrade features.
I agree with the salesman except the slam on Renner hammers.

That makes me recall of something.
When someone tells you 99 truths and 1 lie, you will think that you have heard 100 truths.
I find that this has been the practice for a lot of salesmen (regardless of which industry). It occurs to piano sales person, it occurs to the marketing staff of a university/college, it occurs to a mechanic etc. etc. frown
