2010 Chopin Celebratory Ecitals
Chopin is having a very special birthday next year, 1st March 2010. It will be 200 years since he was born in the little house in Zelazowa Wola and there will be celebrations all over the world. To make a special Piano World commemoration, we are intending to hold two
ecitals for Chopin’s birthday. The first will be held on 22nd February 2010 which is still believed by some to be his real date of birth. This will be our third Mazurkathon – for what better tribute to Chopin than a performance of these incredibly individual works, which are so redolent of his love of Poland?
Additionally, we will be holding an ecital on 1st March 2010 to which we invite larger submissions from more advanced players. There are plenty of those! Eg: Ballades, Scherzi, Impromptus, Polonaises, Rondos, movements from the Sonatas and individual works such as the Barcarolle, the Berceuse, the Tarantella, the Fantaisie, the Concert Allegro and the Bolero etc. There is plenty to choose from. There are also a very few shorter and easier stand-alone works too, such as album leaves and the Cantabile etc. So something for (almost) everyone.
If there are any vocalists amongst you (and I know we have at least one!) you are welcome to submit some of Chopin’s beautiful Polish Songs. OK, I know this is Piano World, but the Songs do
have piano accompaniments
Excluded are these smaller works: Etudes, Nocturnes, Preludes, Waltzes and Mazurkas.
Exceptions: there are a few gaps from the previous Prelude and Etude ecitals so if anyone can fill those that would be very nice for the 1st March 2010 concert.
These gaps are:
Preludes Opus 28 no 13 and no 17, Prelude Opus 45, Etudes Opus 10 no 8 and no 11, Etudes Opus 25 numbers 2, 3, 5 and 10.
We are limiting participation to one work per performer in these special anniversary concerts, so that more people have a chance to take the piece they love.
So, Chopin-lovers out there, you have a wide choice! Book your favourite piece and start practising now. (Some of the Mazurkas were booked previously so they are listed below as they will be reserved for those who wanted them, unless they cancel).Pieces Booked for the Spring 2010 200th Anniversary Chopin Ecitals
