Hi Rick,
I have 3201 PAGES of messages in my PM box.
Sounds like a cookie problem. Either your browser isn't storing our cookie, or you have spyware/virus protection that isn't allowing our cookie.
With no cookie, the system thinks you are someone new every time, or at least that you are trying to log in from a new computer.

Greg, I read your post about needed changes that remain to be made or improved that gradually will be made. My question (if not already answered) is, can or will PMs be sortable by date. Another question is, do we continue with the same maximum number (60) of sent/received PMs? Thank you, Lisztener. P.S. I love the changes, especially the color theme options.

1. Clutter clutter clutter. On many web sites, people regard the ads as clutter. Here, the ads are welcome, and the content is overwhelmed with clutter.
2. The forum pages show far fewer threads per page compared to the old format. Also, the thread pages show far fewer posts per page. All of this makes for lots of "next" page load. I would prefer to scroll down. Can the number of items per page be adjusted, either by the admins or as a per-user setting?
3. I read that avatars are limited in size. Yet some people have big (almost photo-worthy) avatars. What am I doing wrong?
4. It's been said already ... the seach function falls short.
5. Text is too small. Yes, I know I can increase it in the browser. But then I have to reset it when I surf elsewhere. Annoying.
6. On the plus side, the site performance is quite good.

You can customize it via My Stuff > Edit Preferences > "Total topics to show per page"; the number can be increased to as high as 99.

Hey everybody, I'm now using the koniro color scheme and I can really see the print. I really like it. For those who are having problems reading the font, I think this will help. BC

I must say this is harder to read, and the ads on both margins are distracting. It may help if the main topic site uses darker colored print.

I'm using the black and gold scheme, because I like the Verdana font; in my opinion, it's easier to read.
I agree with brahms about the distracting ads. There are just too many of them on both sides, plus the graphics...argh. Maybe it would be better to put the ads on only one side?

Frank, HTML is still disabled in Pianist Corner. I don't know about other forums. I wanted to embed some videos, but it didn't work since HTML is off.

As I explained in our newsletter and online, ads are what supports the Piano Forums, Piano World, and to some extent, me. My guess is you won't notice them so much after a while (although our advertisers are certainly hoping you will notice them at least once). Visit most any major sites, including CNN, Yahoo, etc. and you will find plenty of ads, including the really annoying ones that appear smack in the middle of the content until you make them go away. I gave everyone the option of supporting the forums through subscriptions, the majority said no way, I want everything for nothing. Hence, the ads. At least they are relevant to pianos

Ron, As you've no doubt seen, the maximum for PM's is now 200. I don't think private message boxes can have different sortation options like the forums do. However, there is a global option that can be set that determines sort order and I'm fairly certain that it's set to order by date of receipt. However I think (and this is supposition on my part) that this only applies to messages received after the new board was built and messages were imported. Older messages that were imported from the other board are more or less at random - not ordered by sender, subject or send date. Newer ones appear (at least in my mailbox) to be ordered by date. I hope this supposition is true. If so, it means only older messages will be affected and I suppose there's a silver lining in the fact that the old board only allowed users to have 60 messages - fewer to deal with!

Greg, I got back all of my deleted PM's from the old forums. Waaaay more than 60. Not to mention PM's that I hadn't even received before due to my box being full.

Frank, Thanks for your response. I looked and I am accepting your cookies. They are listed in with the others. As far as spyware, I am not sure about that. Again, thank you!! As far as people complaining about the clutter look, you are right. People wanted the site for free. And they are targeted advertisements to a certain audience. There is "no free lunch".

I admit that at first I did not like the new format. It seemed more cluttered.
But after reading about and exploring some of the new features, I'm liking it more and more.
Thanks everyone!

I think it's because you were admin on both the old board and new. Regular users on the old board were limited to 60 messages after which they were unable to receive new PM's, anyone who tried to send them a message would get a response "Sorry - <users> mail box is full".

I am SO glad somebody else is saying this besides me!
Many people have complained about the size of the type, but I think the real culprit is the typeface itself.
Can't Verdana please be offered in at least one of the other skins besides Black and Gold? I'm using Pastels instead, because as much as I prefer Verdana, I can't deal with light type against a dark background; for me, it negates the otherwise superior readability of Verdana. (Also, Pastels seems the least busy, the least cluttered and has no superfluous decoration. And all the lines and boxes are very subdued!)
Hey, I'm changing this message to Verdana but without any change in type size. What do you all think? If you like this typeface better than the current default, please say so!
Pastels with Verdana would be perfect IMHO.
Steven
p.s. BTW, the ads don't bother me in the least. They're limited in number, so they're all at the top of the page. Once you get several posts down in a thread, there's no longer anything to see except the messages in the wide center column—nothing on the sides at all.

YIKES! Elssa's, a couple above mine, did the same thing. This is a test! Does it do it here! Cathy

Something I haven't figured out yet: When I click on a thread with multiple pages, sometimes I'm taken to the first page, sometimes to the last, sometimes to the top of the page, sometimes to the bottom.
When I clicked on this thread - now to page 8 - I was taken to page 6. Anyone else experiencing similar anomalies? Could it possibly be that the last time I visited this thread I was on page 6 and the software is taking me back to my last position? If so, that's clever!
Regards,
