My thanks, too, to you Frank for the update.

It's going to take some getting used to; for some of us, change is hard. For the moment, for me, the Forum pages have a very dense, cluttered look, not helped by the topic preview. However, once into a topic, the look seems to be a little cleaner.

I'm having difficulty with text formatting, however. When I used the codes (... for bold; ... for italics, they don't work. Even going to full reply screen and selecting text to be made bold or italicized and then using the text formatting buttons, they still don't apply.

I assume that this is just a small glitch that will eventually be resolved. I hope, for your sake, Frank, that there won't be many.

Again, thanks.

Regards,

BruceD

As a rapidly aging close to senior citizen, I am finding the new pages very pale and hard to read. Is there any way I can change this? It would be great to have more contrast, given that the new setup is much busier than the last. Can I set this up in preferences?

I also support turning off the preview function.

Just noticed another change...

Upon reviewing a thread, didn't we used to click on the last person showing and the thread would show up (from his post)?

Now when one clicks on the person's name, it comes up as his profile.

???

I lost my avatar but now see the smilies!

Hmmmm...is it showing when I post, as it is not showing where I type.

Thanks Whippon Boy...I just changed to the dark format...

interesting!

At the top of the screen select "My Stuff", and "Edit Preferences". On that screen you have an option to choose 'Your preferred stylesheet'. Select 'ubbthreads-dark'. That's what I'm using at the moment. smile

It's not often that I want to print out a thread, but since the option is offered, may I make the following comments?

1) If I do a simple key-stroke print command (Ctrl-P), I get two pages with the side columns printed and no text, and then more pages with the text in reasonably small print.

2) If I go to the top of the page under "Topic Options" and select "Print Topic" the required pages of text print out without the side columns on blank pages, but the formatting of the text is a real paper waster. Each post in the thread is in a separate box, each box has the title repeated as a header in bold, large type (maybe 20-point?) On some pages there is as much space taken with the (in this particular case) two-line title of each post as there is text for the posts.

As I said before, however, any comments or criticisms I may make of the new format doesn't in any way diminish my appreciation for the work that must have gone in to reformatting these forums (fora?).

When I find features that I really like, I will try to remember to thank you for them!

Thanks,

BruceD

Spiders are small programs (actually called bots or robots) the search engines send out to "index" (capture) pages of a web site.
They are a good thing, because that means they will index the new forums and people will find us when they do a search.

If you click the Who's Online box title, it lists everyone it finds on the forums, including who the spiders are.

Frank,
Thanks for all you do. Great improvements. I just wondered why the log in did not recognize my password. I had to get another one. Just wondered if others had the same problem.

Thanks Rick,

Yes a couple of people have had trouble with their passwords.
Not sure if it's a cookie issue, browser issue, or something got messed up during the import (most likely).

Hoping it doesn't happen too often, I'm chasing down enough things, been at it about 12 hours straight so far crazy

Hi Frank,

Am actually enjoying the new format, thanks for the upgrade!

Request..... while I have my beautiful avatar, hehe, I am missing the ability to have an email notice when someone writes an answer to a post. There use to be a box to click for Email notification, but I can't find it now...maybe I am not looking hard enough.

In any case, congrats on the new format. GP

Frank,

I've stopped the sweating. And, my body stopped shaking.

Worse than kicking my heroin habit! (Just kidding!)

Nice new look. It will even be better when we figure out how to use it!!!

Great work, Frank - much appreciated. Re the passwords: mine didn't work at first, either, but I thought to re-enter it as if it were case-sensitive (ie I used upper case whereas before I didn't need to) and that worked for me. smile

This way works.

Seems a bit long-winded though.

Looks like this is the substitute. "Add this thread to my watchlist"
