Alright, so I put the fugue on hold and had some fun with an abstract piece. You can see what I have thus far here:

http://www.box.net/shared/hfmxnff4u0

After an exposition built of insane runs, leaps, and chords (I think they are playable by a virtuoso, at least at an adagio tempo) I decided to structure it a bit more and take the theme found in measure five and build variations around it. I intend to write a passacaglia built of this theme with an altered rhythm , and finally, a free-form fugue, perhaps of the original theme inverted. Of course, the end of the piece will be the opening bass and "bell" treble simply with the hands' parts reversed.

Tell me what you think.

Could you post a recording? It's a bit hard for me to hear in my head and I won't get to try it at my piano until later.

Some initial thoughts - try using more ledger lines instead of notating the actual pitches. It will make it easier to read. In ms 7, is that to be played all with the right hand? It looks like a perfect place to use the sostenuto pedal to hold the bass note and thus freeing both hands to alternate playing the upper notes. Also, interesting that you're using the retrograde in your variations part.

Looks like there might be some interesting ideas there, but at this point it looks just like that - just some neat ideas. I think it could do with a little fleshing out.

You mean 8va?

I will try to get the midi recorded here in a moment. My resources are limited as I'm using finale notepad.
