I just finished this nocturne a few days ago. It took me about 3 days to write, but It's probably my most mature work to date. I put a lot of emotion into this, and I really feel attached to it.

I am recording this piece (with myself playing it) on March 2nd, so for now you have to deal with computer generated GPO sounds.

I also attached a PDF of the score so people can follow along while they listen!

As always, comments/critques are appreciated!

I like it!

I'd be proud to say I wrote that.

May I have it? :-p heh

BTW, the computer generated sound is also very good. What did you use?

Thanks!

I used Garritan Personal Orchestra. Its very good, but nowhere near how it sounds when a human plays it. There are just somethings computers can't do...

Very nice. With the insistent triple rhythm in the left hand, it felt more like one of Mendelssohn's Venetion Boat Songs or a slow waltz than a Nocturne. But that's just naming. The piece was quite nice and I'm sure would sound even better with a real performance.

Why is there Nocturne no. 4 written there while your topic title refers to Nocturne no. 7 smile ?

I agree with 8tude, it's more a waltz than nocturne. I also agree that's simply a naming issue. However, the spelling of the rhythm in the right hand is confusing, it looks like you've juxtaposed a lot of 6/8 over 3/4. The proper spelling (and this is just for reference purposes would be quarter tied to an eighth barred with three more eighths. I don't mean to nitpick, but correct spelling of harmonies and rhythms is one way to gain credibility as a composer.

Both of you said it seems more like a Waltz, but VTech's professor thinks its more of a Mazurka (though I can see where the waltz would come in). I see what you mean about the note spelling, Steve, and I will definately keep that in mind in future compositions. I've only been composing for about 13 months, so I'm still learning a lot about it. I'm glad you guys liked it though. smile

Evan,

I also got more of a Mazurka feel from the left hand.

I thought that you did well with the melody; consistent theme with enough variation to keep it interesting.

The two loud chords at c.3:10, I felt that they were louder than necessary. You'd already established a fine drama. Perhaps just a little less volume there.

I had a bad idea to not recognize my first pieces I wrote, since they were not very good. I changed my mind afterward, so this is really No.7... don't worry!

David: Could just be the recording using GPO. I've already recorded it myself, but I'll have to search my comp. and upload it later. Thanks for the comments though, i'll post on your piece later.

Do you play this piece personally? It would be nice to hear that instead of Garritan... I mean, it's not bad, but would be better with a human behind the wheel. smile

Every day we are afforded a new chance. The problem with life is not that you run out of chances. In the end, what you run out of are days.

Yes I have the recording. I'll need to sign up to savefile, and upload it later. Everything has been pretty hectic, so sorry for the long wait! It'll be up tonight more than likely!
