Does anyone here play Kitten on the Keys by any chance? I'm struggling along trying to learn it, and any advice would be much appreciated smile

Novelty piano, of which Zez Confrey was a practitioner, is meant to be a difficult genre, and Kitten on the Keys is one of his more difficult pieces. You should have a background in ragtime and early jazz when you tackle it. Learn the rhythmic and harmonic structure, and practice, practice, practice.

I do play a lot of ragtime, boogie, stride, etc., but this novelty stuff is a "different animal", as you say - a reach challenge. Well, I guess to start I shouldn't expect to sound like Claude Bolling, right? wink Thanks for your reply. smile

ditto BDB..

In all honesty I'd suggest staying away from that stuff. May I suggest Fats Waller?
