I like Mose. I first some him in the early seventies and most recently saw him last fall. Still puts on a good show. His soloing style is pretty unique, his sense of swing always feels kind of second line to me (not that that's a bad thing) and his singing style is, well, pure Mose. I really like his songwriting. IMHO he hasn't had much influence on jazz players, but his compositions are recorded by lots of folks. He has been an influence on lots of rockers. If I'm not mistaken I seem to remember that the The Yardbirds and The Who recorded his songs.

Love that #11!

DKrall does a super cover of MA's Stop This World on her CD, The Girl In The Other Room. I love the tritone voicing, etc.--a fun tune to transcribe & play!

The Who covered Young Man's Blues on Live at Leeds. Pete Townsend was a fan.

I had the pleasure of going out for a bite to eat with Mose after a gig many years ago. He was the most charming and graceful person you’d want to meet and of course his trio was smok’n that night!

If you like Mose, check out Ben Sidran – you’ll hear a lot of Allison’s influence yet Ben has his own thing going at the same time. Take note that the Miles Davis classic, Nardis, is Sidran spelled backwards. Coincidence? ….. I wonder… wink
