I saw that movie yesterday and have become obsessed with the music! It would have been cool if there were some arrangements of the whole thing for piano.
Are there any??
Silly question?

Oh well...i'll have to use my ear, then.

Why not try and get a DVD of the film and copy the music. Try play along to get the general theme.

What is this music and what is the film basically please?

Alan

Yes, i will indeed buy the dvd. One of the best movies i have ever seen...music as well.

The music is by Pink Floyd; psycedelic, exprimental music from the late 70's. The album is a concept-album.

It's a bit hard to explain short what the film is about..."The Wall"( made in 1982) is told through film, music and animation. There's no regular dialouge in it.
Basically it's about Pink; a rockstar who had a rough childhood wartime in England, and whose father "flew across the ocean", and died there.
He had an evil teacher at school, and a dominating mother.
All of this bad memories helps him to build a "wall" between himself and the rest of the world, emotionally and physical. The memories are all "bricks" in the wall. He isolates himself, in other words.
The story changes in time and place, reallity and nightmare.
It's art.

A very depressing movie but I agree that it is art.

You must be very young.

I remeber the day The Wall came out. The Album. Yes in vinyl! whome

We used to play all sorts of music from it. I played the drums at the time. I know a couple of selections from it on guitar.

The song "Mother" has the following chords:

G
Mother do you you think they'll drop the
C
Bomb?
G
Mother do you you think they'll like this
C
Song?
C
Mother do you you think they'll try to break my
G
Balls?

D
oooohh
C
Ahhhh Moother should I build the
G
wall.

Repeat with second verse

Chorus:

G
hush now baby baby don't you
C
cry
F
Mother's gonna make all your
C
nightmares come true
F
Mother's gonna put all of her
C
fears into you
F
Mother's gonna keep you right here
C
under her wing
F
She won't let you fly but she
C
might let you sing.
F
Mother's gonna keep baby
C
cozy and warm

D
oooohh
C
Babe
D
oooohh
C
Babe
D
oooohh
C
Babe
D
oooohh babe, you'll
C
always be a baby to
G
me

etc, etc, etc.

That's all from memory so excuse any innacuracies.

Great Album!

Thanks for the info, Allegretto.

I know the drummer (Nick Mason) in that group, but not very well we both did motor-racing but I knew his father better (Bill) and we also raced against each other in old Bentleys.

Regards, Alan

Markjpcs,

Thank you very much, for taking your time on that!

And, yes i'm young...it seems like all the great rock was made before i was born.
Vinyl? What's that? heh, just kidding...

I'm glad my dad happened to have The Wall in his collection , or else I most likely wouldn't have discovered it.
And now, it's all i listen too! (It's taking over my life, damnit!) help

Alan,

You know Nick Mason????!!!

Allegretto,

I used to be that nuts about it too. Be careful! It can lead to very depressing thought patterns.

I have a very good friend who's son got mixed up with drugs and killed himself while listening to The Wall.

I know that is a extreme situation but music and lyrics can be very influential in a young persons development.

Here is some information from: http://home.mchsi.com/%7Ettint/Intro.html

Quote
As with most art, Pink Floyd's concept album is a combination of imagination and the author's personal life. The album's germinated during the band's 1977 "Animals" tour when frontman Roger Waters, growing disillusioned with stardom and the godlike status that fans grant to simple rock stars, became disenchanted with the seemingly mindless audience and spit in the face of a concert-goer. Drawing on these feelings of adult alienation as well as the those springing from the loss of his own father during World War II, Waters began to flesh out the fictional character of Pink. The band's first frontman, Syd Barret, and the wild stories surrounding his drugged-out escapades and subsequent withdrawal from the world provided Waters with further inspiration for the moody rock-star Pink. The contributions of bandmates David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright, provided the final brush strokes for Pink, a contemporary anti-hero, a modern everyman struggling to find, or arguably lose, self and meaning in a century fragmented by war.

Don't worry mark. I'm an optimist you see !

Aih...sorry to hear that. Drugs and "The Wall" is probably not a good mix.

Very interesting thought.

Happy to hear about your optimism Allegretto! smile

Inspired by this thread I say down and figured out an arrangment by ear on the piano today. Based it on my rendition of Mother from guitar chords listed above.

A nice diversion piece from the classical stuff I am learning.

Thanks!

Look for PM.

It's also available from SheetMusicPlus. Just plug Pink Floyd into the search box.
