Ive been mostly playing classical music, with only few exception.

I would love if you could suggest me some sad pieces:) Or maybe some christmas pieces, but not the religious ones smile

Oh, i can play at grade 6 level (Shubert impromptu op.90 no.2, Mozart Rondo alla turca,... But i dont mind if its easier:))

I really like and have been working on Vince Guaraldi's "Christmas Time is Here" from A Peanuts Christmas.

A sad song that's also sort of a Christmas song is Joni Mitchell's "River" (performed here by Herbie Hancock & Corinne Bailey Rae) .

Schumann's Traumerei I believe falls under that melancholy genre easily. Scriabin's 2 page etude op. 2 is also quite sad in mood. I don't think they are hard either. I trust you can manage with practice. =)

OH! That one makes me cry every time I hear it sung by Joni!

My current favorite sad piano piece is the Adagio in G Minor originally attributed to Albinoni, but actually written by Remo Giazotto in 1958. I also love Mahler's "Adagietto."

I have posted this song before, but if you want a beautiful but sad Christmas-themed sad song, I highly recommend Midori Karashima's heart-tugging song, Silent Eve. It includes a lovely piano part.

Silent Eve

Silent Eve (Live)

Another two of her hits in which she soars are Anata No Ai Ni Naritai and Soba Ni Itai

She was with me even in my grave
When the last of my friends turned away,
And she sang like the first storm heaven gave.
Or as if flowers were having their say.

- Anna Akhmatova, "Music"(Dedicated to Dmitri Shostakovich)

I second Shubert's traumerei, it's absolutely beautiful. I love it.

Another song that's quite simple but nice is Grieg's Study in E minor.

It's very very short too so it's easy to learn.

Oh and I suddenly remembered Keith Jarrett's Over the Rainbow.
You can find the sheet music on the net for free for this one and it's absolutely amazing.

Just out of curiosity, for what occasion are you planning to play sad music?
