Hello everyone! This is Keith Phillips from Atlanta. I am a composer and pianist. I attended a Vienna Teng concert last night and was blown away. She is equally gifted in voice and piano. To me she sounds similar to Sara McClachlan. It was a great show. She had cello and violin + a percussionist that beat on a wooden cube with his hands.

I also recently attended a George Winston concert and was impressed with his technique. He really stands out above most other folk or new age style pianists. He is also amazing on Hawaiian slack key guitar.

Vienna Teng is one of my favorite vocalists and ranks right up there with Tori Amos, imo, and it's a shame she's not better known. I didn't realize she was touring out this way. I'll have to check out her schedule.

I've had the good fortune to see George Winston twice in concert. He is amazing, I agree. I hear he is in the process of releasing a sheet music collection which I am eagerly awaiting. (Right now, there are only a few pieces legally available as bonus tracks on his anniversary edition CDs.) But I also agree you will find more fans of new age on the non-classical or AB forum.

I enjoy Ms. Teng's music very much. She is very talented and has a unique sound. My only criticism is most all of her song, at least on the CD I have, Dreaming Through The Noise, are very low key and nary a cheery tune amongst them, as I recall. I love her music, but can take only so much at a time. I wish she would mix up her CD set a bit more with a few upbeat selections.

P.S. Vienna Teng's voice/style - reminds me a bit at time of Mary Hopkins and Merrie Amsterburg. You might like to give these two a listen. Link to soundclips below.

After the Vienna Teng concert in Atlanta Vienna remarked to me that she wished she practiced more!
She sounded wonderful to me with plenty of confidence.

I also saw Tori Amos at the Fox Theater in Atlanta about a month ago (November 07). She was incredible in her stage presence and wow, what a show person. Her lighting show was even more elaborate than the Police concert I saw a week after that.
