Thanks I like this piece and I have learnt the first 6 measures.

I am kind of confused cos there seems to be many versions for just one particular piece of classical music and what are actually
"arranged-piece" ?

the 'arranged piece' means that an original piece is re-arranged by taking out/adding some notes/chords to make it suit for some occasions. someone could rearrange a piece, originally for piano, for orchestra/strings, as many composers have done; or someone would just take a difficult piano original composition and replace all the difficult passages/chords or some baseline notes with some easier note sequences or simple chords and yet retain some key melody notes to sound like the original. there are a lot of such easy arrangements of classical pieces like that which are intended for beginners, although most of them are pretty bad imo.

Luckychwee, this is the very first original classical piece I learned! From the "Anna Magdelena Notebook" collection Bach wrote for his wife?

For those that might be interested, or can remember back that far, back in the 60's there was a pop hit called "Lover's Concerto" by a female Motown group called "The Toys" which was based on this Bach piece. Here a link to hear a piece of it.

http://www.cdconnection.com/bin/nph-main/YT2EAovuJgSd.b

I can't get to the specific location, the site won't let me but type in 772047 which is the CD connection part # to find it.

Thanks Signa & Vintagefingers

I am unable to locate the piece too.

http://www.music-scores.com/instrument/composer.php?instrument=Piano&name=Bach

Is it worthwhile to subscribe into this as they have a varieties of classical pieces range from beginners to advanced pianist. Or are there any other websites as such which I am able to locate those music that is around my level ?

The reason for this is because sometimes it is hard to get most of the pieces you want to learn in one book.

Your opinion please.

luckychwee, i don't think you need to subscribe for this yet. it would take you a while to be able to play even a few Bach's easy pieces. for now, you can just focus on the minuet you are learning, and after that you may try to learn another easy and yet interesting Bach piece (again from A.M.Bach notebook) - Musette in D, which you may find in some easy classical music collection book or in the following book:

First Lessons in Bach for the Piano - Book I (publisher - Schirmer's)

this book contains 16 easy Bach pieces and half of them from A.M.Bach Notebook. it would very much suit your level and most of them are just one page long. you may buy this book and then the Book II if you like playing Bach. good luck!

here is the link to the books:

Lucky,

It is identical to the first Minuet in Schirmer's "First Lessons in Bach - For the Piano" Book 1 (Carroll) ISBN 0-7935-2555-1, except for the editor's "embelishments" (i.e. fingerings (numbers), slurs, grace notes, etc.) - the notes and their "values" are the same.

I happen to be working on it as well!

Hope this helps!

Kevin

Thanks !

One more question, how do I identity if a particular piece is original or "simplified/arranged" if it is not written.

Please have a look at this again :-

http://www.music-scores.com/instrument/composer.php?instrument=Piano&name=Chopin

Op.09, No.02 Nocturne: easy
Op.09, No.02 Nocturne: simplified

Both looks the same thought one is easy and the other simpified and the original is in Eb.

My friend told me that "NEVER" learn "NON-ORIGINAL" pieces otherwise you will have a problem to re-learn the Original piece later. Does it really make sense ?

If that is so, how come there are so many simpified pieces (example Ode De Joy) along the path of piano studies and kids are learning it at the first few lessons ?

Hope someone can clarify my doubts.

The original score, or close to original as best as I would know, I have about 10 different recordings of this piece, can be found at the following link. Click on Chopin and you will find a list of his works that can be downloaded and printed. Easy versions are nice and I see no reason not to learn them between now and when you are ready to tackle the originals. IMO, as always.

Luckychwee,
Regarding your friend's comment that one should "NEVER" learn "NON-ORIGINAL," -- I do not totally agree with your friend. At least if you learn a non-original and then the original, you will be challenged to learn how to read music. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks Vintage & Lindy

Well now I think it's really up to each individual whether s/he wants to learn the easy or original. Some may argue that Never learn simplified piece as it is not Original whilst some may find it alright to learn arranged/simpified pieces.

As for myself, I would prefer of course to learn most originals but if there is a particular piece that I want very much to play by myself NOW (I do not have the techniques to play the original piece), I will learn the simplified piece. Just like this "Op.09, No.02 Nocturne: simplified" this piece is nice .... smile
