I'm learning the Sleeping Beauty Waltz this week, and it's really coming along nicely. I know this is still very much a beginner's piece. But for me...it's HUGE. It's a lovely piece, it's smoothing out so nicely, and I feel like I'm starting to play music! So I'm in giddy excitement this week, and just loving what the piano has brought to my life!! I knew you'd understand...

That is a big WOW moment we all share. I agree, Diane, this moment in our studies is huge. No matter what, you will always have the waltz in your head, heart, and with practice, your hands.

And the good news. It never gets old. You get to feel this way with every song/piece/study/drill from here on. It is always joyful, and you should be proud.

I am also a student, have been at it for 2 years now, and I cannot play Sleeping Beauty Waltz (yet). I am, for some reason, feeling your pride and accomplishment, and it's driving me back to the keys to take on the next step with vigor and focus, as I want the feeling in me as well.....

That is SO great! I'm sharing your excitement. I love hearing about someone succeeding at learning a new piece. I'm still struggling along with the very basic bottom beginner stuff, but I too get excited when I play something sounds "good" (good of course being relative at my level).

These moments are what piano and this forum are for. Congratulations, Diane!

Congratulations on your accomplishment Diane! It's a great feeling when you master a piece and it doesn't matter if it's chopsticks or mazeppa.

Congratulations, Diane. I'm a real piano noob, although I've been playing electric bass for some time now. And I'm an old guy...but I know the feeling you've described. It's absolutely wonderful to be a part of creating music. I didn't have that in my life for a long time and now that I'm finding it...it's well, as the vernacular would have it, "Toadly Ossum!"

The first time the playing really hits you is so awesome. It is clear to see by your excitement that you share the passion that most (if not all) us ABF'ers have!

Diane, I am working on a Grade 3 piece for some weeks now and it has some syncopated notes that can be difficult. However I'm moving towards the last few measures that I'm finding tough. Daily I chip a little more at it until I've cracked it, then I know how you are feeling. Well done.

I am happy for you, it's moments like these that it's all worth the effort.

Diane, congratulations on your progress. That's a lovely, and well-loved, piece. Very handy for parties and whatnot when someone points to the piano and says, "Play us something!"

Way to go Diane! Must be a wonderful feeling! I'm a beginner myself, I can't say I've got to that point where I really feel I'm making music yet but maybe it's not far away
