A million thanks to those who responded to my two initial posts about purchasing a piano. I finally decided on a used Yamaha C3 in lieu of a new 6'-0" Story & Clark Player Piano and a 5'-9" Cline (Young Chang 175 Pramberger Series). For $11k, I am thoroughly satisfied with my choice. I actually almost ended up with a Yamaha C5, but lost out on an Internet auction. Must say that the internet has completely revolutionized the buying process, especially in the States. Again, thanks for your input.

A C3 for 11k sounds like a great deal. I hope it is as nice a piano as a C3 can be!

Wish I could find a good one for that price!

If I could have found a C3 for $11K I would have been thrilled (although that would probably have caused me not to buy my piano-that-shall-remain-nameless).

Congratulations! Pictures, please!

I owned a C3 for almost 23 years and never had a problem. The C3 is a fine piano. Hope you enjoy your C3 as much as I enjoyed mine.

Is this a new C3 for $11K? With all the positive replys I was just wondering. I see C3's all over the internet for just under $10K.

Thanks axtremus...I read too quickly. I should have known, $11k is probobly about wholesale for a new C3. But I wonder if $11K is a good price for a used C3. I don't mean to rain of the original posters piano parade but I just to do a reality check on what a C3 should, could, sell for retail. eBay seems to always have several listed for under $10k.

Used piano depends on vintage and condition. Larry Fine's "The Piano Book" for depreciation calculation guidelines, and THIS THREAD also contain a forum member's work on piano depreciation and have some useful discussions.

Personally, I'd take a more hands-on approach -- play everything I can get my hands on, if I cannot fine another piano priced under $11k that perform at least as well as a $11k used C3 that I can get to, then $11k is a fair price for that C3. Some other market a thousand miles away may sell some other used C3's for less than $10k, but if I cannot get to them, then they do me no good (and we haven't even factor in long-distance delivery cost). Whether I can negotiate a lower price depends not on the prices of all the other C3's that I cannot get to, but depends on all the other bidders who can get to this particular C3 and bid against me in competition. (Substitute any other brand/model for the C3, the logic is the same.)
