Is it just me, or have albums gone the way of the dodo? Maybe it's just me.
I actually like The Fray's new self titled album (their second I guess).
It's pop rock, HAS piano it in, no filler songs, and, well, is cohesive enough to call an album.
Oh, and it's GOOD!
Anyways, it renews my faith in Rock. And I needed that.
Got any other Rock albums for me that have piano as an instrument that came out in, let's say the last 2 year?

Hmm, maybe Michelle Branch "Hotel Paper", but that was June 2003 And maybe not cohesive enough to call an album. But maybe so.
Norah Jones "Not Too Late" is recent, but not really "Rock" rock...
Ah well. Hopefully the kids these days get SOMEthin goin...

Muse have piano in a few of their tracks. I love the Rachmaninov-inspired solo in Butterflies and Hurricanes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cw1TGh5MAUs

Thanks! I've never heard of Muse before. I looked em up on Rhapsody and they're good! Maybe not full fledged "album" makers, but maybe, and at least they're GOOD! Why haven't I heard these guys on the radio?? Where do the kids go these days to find decent bands like this?? I listen to the most "progressive" radio station in town (KMTS, the "Mountain") and they just don't play much I'd want to buy. Well, time to call round and see if any of the un-dead CD stores have these in stock. Thanks again

So Muse haven't cracked America yet? It's suprising - they are one of the biggest bands here in Europe, and considered one of (if not THE) best live act to watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzpGk44UXKQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEjlGJpJXU0 Oh well, you might just have to keep your Jessica Simpson, and we shall hang onto Muse a little bit longer, then

Boy, does Josh Fix == Queen reincarnated ?? Yep, that qualifies. I'm not a huge Queen fan, but that definitely qualifies. How is an old guy like me supposed to find this stuff?

How about Jordan Rudess or Dream Theater (with Jordan Rudess). I prefer his solo stuff.
I guess he's the 90s/00s equivalent of Tony Banks/Rick Wakeman/Kerry Minnear (can't stand Keith Emmmmmm [who didn't do anything interesting after The Nice]). Whilst at times he can play like an automaton/robot, you have to admire his technique & professionalism and his attitude with sharing the tricks of the trade and so forth....

I really enjoyed the 'Jeff Beck Live at Ronnies' album. He played evernight for a week with a range of famous guests (Joss Stone, Eric Clapton etc). There's a DVD/CD (recorded sometime last Autumn). Jeff's a genius! Pitty he's playing a guitar though ;-(
But check out Tal Wilkenfeld's solo album 'Transformation' (his bass player's). It has some great Herbie Hancock/Chick Corea Jazz/Rock Fusion piano to the fore throughout, if you like that sort of stuff....

Jeff is a genius, alright. But, yeah, he's guitar like Satriani and all those other guitar heros.
Hmm, on Rhapsody I'm not findin' 'Jeff Beck Live at Ronnies'
Nor the artist Tal Wilkenfeld
And too many albums called 'Transformation'... Can you tell me which of the Transformation albums it is?
All of this has been MOST helpful. Thanks everybody for the tip offs. I've got a kajillion artists at my fingertips on Rhapsody, but I can't seem to FIND the good ones.

The Satch is good, head and shoulders above most of the rest but I don't listen to many of the '3rd generation' guitarists - They all sound a bit samey... "...Hmm, on Rhapsody I'm not findin' 'Jeff Beck Live at Ronnies'..." Take a look at (skip intro): http://www.eaglerockent.com/e-cards/JeffBeck/index.htm I got my copy from iTunes but it is no longer available. It's on Amazon and everywhere else though. "...Nor the artist Tal Wilkenfeld..." http://www.abstractlogix.com/xcart/product.php?productid=23258 or try Google Interestingly, Rhapsody is no longer availble from UK (licensing issues). But when I had access using my seed favourites, more often than not I was dissappointed with what it suggested from other artists... Elwyn

Not so recent but take a listen to Five for Fighting and Sarah Maclachlan for inspiring piano tracks.
