OK, I'm a bit reluctant to post mine, but I've been working hard on it and I finally got a good enough recording, so I think I will anyway. It's not 100% perfect, but for some reason my fingers slip a lot more when I'm recording myself. I'm trying to record myself a lot to help me get over myself in that regard. Please note: this was recorded with my camera's microphone setting and an old, out of tune piano. I'm hoping for future recordings to be able to make it out to my church and record on the well-maintained grand piano.

Anyway. Here's Bring A Torch Jeannette, Isabella for your listening enjoyment. Hopefully the terrible piano (and, frankly, recording equipment) isn't too much of a detraction!

This is the last few minutes of a long improvisation on the theme of What Child Is This/Greensleeves:

It's a little dark in mood, but I like that. smile And it includes a bonus song!

Here's my contribution. I actually thought I might have 3 to 6 carols ready for family consumption, but that turned out to be hubris laugh So here's 2 carols adapted from the hymnal and a new year's played by ear:

Happy holidays, all.

Very nice, Cathy!

I also did one of my by-ear renditions of "Joy to the world", (which I didn't upload to YouTube) but it didn't sound quite as nice as yours smile .

Merry Christmas!

carolyn - what a joyful rendition of Bring a Torch! Very merry.

mahlzeit and Van - loved both of these.

Rickster - thanks. I'm in my sort of second stage of learning to play by ear and improvise - so I take something I know the melody to and mess around with the harmonies and bass from the sheet music, tho as you can see (er, hear?) I'm mostly doing block chords and short runs. But I did a little groove on a Unitarian hymn a couple of weeks ago when we played for services and that was kind of fun smile Livened things up a little.

Happy New Year, everybody -

gaffster - that was terrific! It transported me to a great space - such great energy, such life! A real treat of a great tune!

Oh, and the sort-of-counter melody part comes from these tunes being originally familiar from sung 4-part harmony in the Baptist church, so even when I have to depart from the written notes I still hear that kind of moving bass in my head - it's just that I have to play what's possible and what I can remember and not necessarily what's written smile

Rickster,
Love the blues-y spirit of your performance!

FlipSpiceland,
Very nice performance.

Manndrew,
I have to second Jotur that you are one of my favs too. That's pretty nifty how you add in the strings. Did you play the piece twice with the piano first and add the second round as strings on your DP?

All,
Well Santa did bring me my H2 Zoom. It's taken until now for me to figure out how to record, load into the computer, take it from the computer into Box Net and then to post it on an email.

Santa just brought the equipment - he didn't make me smart. So, better late than never and a very poor attempt for a first try but here goes. Happy New Year!!!

Yes, the Roland FP-7 has a wonderful cello voice (I think.) I played the piano solo first and recorded it, then added the cello part when I played back the piano part. I wanted to choose a fairly simple melody because I felt the cello had to play a harmonized accompaniment. I could fill in the harmony because the song has such an easy chord pattern to follow. Thanks for your comments.
