Thanks for your reply, I may have to wait 1 or 2 years before trying, but can't wait to see how is it difficult.

Thanks,

I used to have this, but it disappeared. (I believe Hess said, "You play Bach the way you want, I'll play Bach the way he wants.") laugh Assuming you want the solo version, not the 4-hands version:

Wanda Landowska said this as I understand.

I stand corrected. Thank you. You are right. Landowska said "you play Bach your way and I'll play Bach his way!"

I have a much simpler version of this than the one posted here that I play at Christmas time. It is in a Bach compilation book that I have, but interestingly it is not attributed to a transcriber. Maybe it's too dumbed-down for anyone to want to take credit for.

There's a transcription I have by Harold Bauer that's a little bit busier than even the Hess version. Lots of 3-note chords spanning a 10th with the left hand.

My favorite part of that piece, which some transcriptions don't include, is when the left hand has the repeating D octaves with a quarter note then an eighth then a quarter then an eighth and then held for 2.5 quarters (in my version), as the right hand has an ascending melody. I love that part!

Actually that page you posted has it (or actually the first of several instances of it), but it's a little bit different. It starts on the first measure of the last line. On my version, the right hand chords are filled out a bit differently, but I'm sure that one would work just as well. Instead of playing the second D-A chord in that measure with the left hand, substitue a D octave identical to the next three D octaves. Also you could shift that last D octave up one octave so you'd be playing 5 identical octaves in a row there, the three as written and one to either side. That's pretty much how it works in the version I have. What a great way to increase musical tension, to have that repeating base octave with the ascending melody!
