Is there a place on the forum where the names, websites and sample music of all the modern pianists is available ?

Apple cheek is presently introducing wonderful asian pianists, thank you.

By frequently visiting the forum and listening to recitals and piano bars and such, we learn of the existence of Maroney, Nevue, Lanz, Leon, Ponce and others but...

Wouldn't it be practical to have a sticky permanent thread where we could maintain a list of pianists composers, their website address and perhaps, some sample of their music and info on available sheet music and such ?

New pianists could be introduced in separate threads, and their coordinates transfered to the list.

My personal knowledge of such pianists has grown tremendously since I joined but I am sure some jewels remain hidden in past threads that I did not get to see.

What do you think ? :p

P.S. If such a place does exist, forgive my ignorance and show me the way.

I think it's a great idea, ddh! There are a couple of links in the "Important topics" thread, but you're right that there are a lot of good artists continually being introduced who might fade into obscurity.

So I think such a thread would be very useful, but it would take some effort to create it in the first place. We need a volunteer... [looks pointedly over at ddh laugh ]

Well, I could try with a little help from my friends...

First, how do we go about creating a thread that sticks to the top of the page ?

Or...

Another possibility is that I create a web page on the subject and ask C7 to add the address in his important topics post.

What think you ?

The good thing about a web page that you create is that you can keep it nice and neat and we don't have to worry about people adding posts like "all new age music sucks."

...but the downside is that you do all the work and we can't easily add to it.

A third option is to create a thread that we don't sticky but which we ask the moderators to link to in the "Important topics" thread. That might be the best option, actually, as I know the moderators were deliberately trying to keep the number of stickied threads to a minimum.

I like this idea very much and I've been pondering which would be the best way to do this. How about ddh starts a thread and we can add to the thread. ddh can then update to the first post as New artists are mentioned.

Best way is for Piano World to add a Wiki, man it would be usefull for so much stuff, and people could add to it, and then moderators could remove or edit stuff........just like wikipedia..........

The idea did come up a few years ago; I don't know what came of it.

There is a new website which is a wikipedia all about classical music. It's relatively new, so there isn't much there -- so if you know something, post it! :p

O.K., here is what I'll do:

I'l pick up all the information I need and set up a webpage;

I'll also see if I can set up a guestbook where you all can contribute the names of pianists/composers that you know.

I'll try to update the main page with this info.

Once set up, I will include the address in my signature and we may ask that it be put in the important subject thread as well.

It may take a couple weeks because of Xmus and all but I'll get back to you A.S.A.P.

How's that ?

I've published a first draft of a possible web page HERE .

I've used Kawaigirl1's music to demonstrate; hope she doesn't mind :p

What do you think. All suggestions are welcome. This is our info page.

Cheers

Look good! One suggestion: perhaps the link to Maroney's website should open in a new window. It was very upsetting to me when I clicked on the link and it shut off Kawaigirl's recording! :p

Well Sam, I will do just that and correct any other defect.
This is just a quick draft to get feedback on the format and content that I did with iWeb.

This format will also allow us to feature performances by our members laugh

The real site will be programmed in Dreamweaver and I can then implement most or all the good suggestions I get.

Cheers

I don't mind at all smile

The web page looks good ddh. I agree with pianojerome that a new window should open when you click on the link to the composer's website.

Another possible suggestion would be to list the artists/composers in alphabetical listing for ease of reference.

I like this idea - and I like the prototype - the font is especially nice.

Mind you, I don't play these composers - I just think the idea is cool smile I *really* like having ABF pianists versions playing - go Kawaigirl and Monica!
