I was wondering what playing opportunities would be available for beginner level pianists, or those who are maybe "advanced" beginners.

I know if you play other instruments you can get into groups like community concert bands or jazz bands without being that good.

I'm thinking if you play classical there's probably not much opportunity to play in a group, but if you play jazz I know there are playing opportunities available.

Are there any beginners out there playing with others?

Yes. With my kids. Quatre mains. (we started lessons together 2 years ago). It's fun! But I don't know if that is exactly what you meant with 'playing together'. I know my pianoteacher has some other adult students that work on duets together & have a lot of fun that way.

There are classical duets for all skill levels.

My teacher sets up duet recitals (four hands or in one memorable case six hands) between her piano students. She also sets up duet recitals between her students and players of string or wind instruments. It's a lot of fun, if a bit nervous making at first.

In my limited experience, playing with others is the best part of music. Are you working with a teacher? If not, you might be able to find a partner through a chamber music society.

Well, I have a friend who plays guitar, and when he comes over we play stuff one of us knows, and usually the other acompanies with chords and stuff. Not the most intelligent take on music, but guaranteed fun ^_^
