I'm just a little curious as to what everyone will be performing for the upcoming Feb 15th ABF online recital.

For some reason, there seems to be a real "BUZZ" in the air regarding the recital (maybe because it is our one year anniversery) and I for one am very much looking forward to hearing everyone's submissions as well as their progress.

So, back to the original question.

Whatcha playin'?

Chopin's Waltz No.14 in e minor, Op. Posth.

The 19 year old Chopin wrote this in a fit of passion for somebody.

I'm attempting to play it at mm=240, which, on the metronome scale is Searing Passion. wink

With all those notes, the mistakes pile up, so I probably won't have a passable recording for another 2 weeks.

I've been working on Minute Waltz, but if I can't get the mistakes down, I will have to submit something else. I have several other pieces that I have been working on in the meantime which are less mistake-prone. If I name them here, I will only put more pressure on myself...red dot. Ha

I'm hoping to have a decent take of Einaudi's "Giorni Dispari." That translates roughly as "Strange Days" so I guess it isn't really a love song. But my backup was "Requiem" by Micah Page, which DEFINITELY is not a love song. laugh

So I'm glad to hear you're estimating two weeks on your submission, Mel, as I was beginning to worry that I'd be the last one in!

Jessica's Sonata - from the Man from Snowy River. Definitely fits the love theme (unless Jessica's the horse! .. Oh Dear! Now I can't remember )

Erik Satie's Gymnopedie #1. Not a love song, but it's what I've been working on and it's too late to change now!

I don't know, with the love theme, I'll probably submit my resurrected version of Fantasie-Impromptu, even though that's a totally overplayed piece.

If I'm feeling especially brave, I'll serve up my extra well-butchered version of Etude #5.

OK, I'm going to be brave and face my fear of commitment!!! I'll commit to recording a piece for the recital...and it will even be about love: Liebestraume #3. It's still rough around the edges (particularly the cadenzas) but now that I've publicly stated that I'll perform it, I'll be forced to really work at it over the next 20 days!

Probably La Valse d'Amelie by Yann Tiersen. Don't hold me to that though, I always change at the last gasp.

I was going to do a medley of punk rock songs, but now I've come across a simple but beautiful piece that I will play instead, Nocturne by Mona Rejino.

Bach's French Suite No 2, Air if I can get through it without messing up too many times in recording. If this gets out of hand, Chopin Prelude No 4 or No 20. Haven't decided yet.

On reflection, thats the best answer - weren't the first couple of recitals 'secret', we didn't know what each other was playing until the day?

I like that idea, we get a surprise when the recital opens!

Hmmm.... now I'm thinking of changing my mind. Given the love theme, this may be the recital I need to submit my (imperfect) rendition of Winston's Longing/Love.
