Are there any rules asking for sheet music to be sent? If there is I apologise.

But does anyone have this song?
And can possibly send it me privately?

I can't find a decent version anywhere (just piano solo).

Also just a question, why are there so many different arrangements of this peice?

And, whilst I was reading some other sheet music, there was a c sign at the betting after the treble clef and the sharp signs, what does this mean and what is the correct name?

"Common time" and it means the piece is in 4/4 time.

Canon in D is one of the most popular (not quite) beginners' pieces. It was written originally for 3 violins and bass, which is the reason for many piano transcriptions. Here is one popular transcription; I am sure you can find many of different difficulty levels if you google it:

Have a listen to this:

You may never feel the same about the Canon again. It is amazing how common that chord progression is once you start listening for it in shopping malls, elevators, dentist offices . . .

George Winston did a really nice variation on the Canon in D, which he called Variations on the Kanon. It is in C (!), AND he decided to put the music in the public domain. So you should be able to find the sheet music on the web. I really like it. You can see various people perform it on youtube and other places on the web, I think this version is pretty good:

You should be able to find the sheet music online, it's also on the 25th anniversary edition of the December CD (in pdf format). It's marked "Public Domain" right at the top.

I'm just beginning, but hoping to learn this piece before too long.

Lavace - I was searching for the Canon in D scores and came across this site Everynote.com which has a few different version of this piece. By looking at the first page I can’t tell which one is the easy version but I really like the last one, not sure about the difficulty of the piece.

YD – Thanks for the link - did you play the three violins and bass piece would you say that is the most difficult transcription of all?

The three violins and ground bass version is the original version of the piece, which was not written for piano. So all the piano versions are transcriptions of it.

In the US, any piece published before 1923 is in the public domain and can be shared freely.

For pieces published after 1923, the copyright lasts for 70 years after the publication date or 70 years after the composer's (or transcriber's or editor's) death, whichever extends longer.

I actually have a nice piano beginer-slightly intermediate version from a very old compilation book.

I only have a very good copy of the original book and it does'nt have any copyright notes on it; but then again, it's not the original it's just a copy of it.

Others must swear before me, on their childrens life that if I send you a copy, they won't be-head me!.
