It's May 5th and no one has started this month's piano bar yet. So I'll start one. I've actually posted this piece in the Einaudi thread awhile ago when it was still work in progress. I was also going to use this piece as a back up recital piece if I didn't get the planned recital piece ready.

It's call "Divenire" by Ludovico Einaudi

Bravo kawaigirl, I've listened to this piece probably a dozen times now and it just gets better with age, imo this piece ranks right up there with Altra Vita, Nuvole Bianche and Leo in beauty, can't wait to hear Monica's version.

Wow!
A couple months ago I listened to your playing of Una Mattina on this website. It was my first introduction to Ludovico Einaudi and inspired me to try to learn Una Mattina, Nefeli and Le Onde. Now I've just got to learn Divenire! My life has been enriched.

First, kawaigirl1, let me say that your piece was very relaxing. I'm guessing Einauldi is termed "New Age" music? Is Jim Brickman in the same genre? I'm not familiar with Einauldi, but you played it very smoothly.

I'd like to make my first contribution to the Piano Bar, if I may. I guess I need to introduce myself, since I received so many nice comments after the last recital, so I'll write a short bio in another thread. Meanwhile, here's my short rendition of the "ultimate" piano bar song, Piano Man by William Joel:

kawaigirl, I thought your "in progress" Divenire was near-perfect, but this is even better. You've got the bridge portion flowing very smoothly. smile

The more I play/hear this piece, the higher up it moves in my ranking of all-time favorite Einaudi pieces. I may like Ancora better, but at 12 minutes that piece will not be in my repertoire any time soon.

sid, I can't play this piece even 50% as well as kawaigirl, and you will have a long wait for my version, so you should just listen to kawaigirl's over and over. Right now I'm shooting for having it ready for the August recital.

euclid10540, your Billy Joel piece was great! This is the first time I've heard it arranged as a piano solo, and I really liked it. The intro part did a good job of capturing the feel of the harmonica.

(To answer your question, yes, Einaudi would be considered new age by many people, as would Jim Brickman, although I think Einaudi falls on the Philip Glass/minimalist end of the new age spectrum more than the romantic Brickman end. His CDs actually say "classical" on them, and "neo-classical" also fits. You'll also find him in the "film scores" section because he does a lot of movie soundtracks.)(One of these days the music industry will come up with a good name for this kind of music and make it stick.)

(p.s. Go up to the "important topics" thread that stickied at the top of the AB forum page, and then click on the link to the "tell us about yourself" thread to add your introduction.)

Kawaigirl, you playing is absolutely impeccable. When listening to your piece I found it hard to believe this wasn't a commercial CD. Great job, and thank you for posting.

Fred (euclid10540), great rendition. I've also never heard a solo piano arrangement of this and wouldn't have thought it could be done so well. Great job !!!

Here's a short, simple piece for all the 'Lost' fans. Easily one of the greatest TV shows ever created (only 3 episodes left this season).

The piece is titled "Life and Death", and was used in the 1st season finale. This is my first recording using Ivory (Bosendorfer Grand):

I hate Kawaigirl for posting her pieces - whenever I listen to them, I end up pushing all my current pieces I'm working on back in order to learn hers. I loved this one, and will be getting the music sheet shortly.
And of course the Piano Man is one of the must learn songs, especially since most people recognize it.

kawaigirl1, that was beautiful. You played very nicely. It sounded just like an official recording.

euclid10540, very nice. It was very relaxing.

Elssa, I love the piano and string combination. It's very soothing.

Ah, the 'Lost' song. I remember that song. You played it perfectly, Eternal.

Thanks for sharing, guys, and girls. Keep up the good work. thumb

Kawaigirl, that was perfect. Stunning performance. I so enjoyed listening to it. Thank you for posting. Were you playing from memory or did you have someone page-turning for you?

Euclid...really nice rendition.

Elssa, I always love hearing you play. You have such a wonderful way of arranging music and you play beautifully.

Eternal...that's the first time I've heard that tune. Well done.

This is an inspiring place to be....

Nell. smile

I'm glad I've discovered this thread. Just one thing: as a very new member I do not know which instruments you all own (no doubt the information is somewhere in other threads) and it would be really good to know. Perhaps when someone posts a recording they could include the make and model of the recorded instrument. For instance, Kawaigirl1 you obviously have a lovely Kawai piano but which is it and how big? Sounds absolutelt fabulous to me!

Actually this is something I wish all recording companies would include in their CD info pack. Very occasionally they do (two weeks ago I bought a UK CD which mentioned the make [Steinway D] and the names of two technicians on hand during the recording sessions). I always find it very interesting!

Thanks!

Wow Elssa that was fantastic !!!

It sounded like it should be on the soundtrack of some old black and white movie, probably at the end. Well done !!!
