Kathleen and Frycek:
It suprises me that Chopin is so limited in his ability to write 1 or 2 rated pieces. You would think, with all his supposed skills, he would not be so limited.
JUST KIDDING - don't shoot me, it's a joke.

So it has been suggested that those intending on performing in all three (or just maybe thinking about it) recitals, choose their 3 mazurkas RIGHT NOW!
Alright. I choose the following: 1. op. 6 no. 3 in E 2. op. 41 no. 1 Em 3. op. 68 no. 1 in C Thank you, and if anyone REALLY wants one of these I can change number 2 or 3.

Frycek: THANK YOU SO MUCH. That list will be of great help. gmm1: That comment deserves a little "love" slap. I will update the list now. Great. I think I am going to have a lovely week-end listening to all of Chopin's mazurkas. Kathleen

Yikes, this is getting complicated because I don't know what is the fairest thing to do.
If a person indicated 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice right from the start, do I give them first crack at their two other choices, even if (after my announcement of picking three) others have picked someone else's 2nd or 3rd choice?
PLEASE EVERYONE, TAKE A LOOK AT THE LIST ON THE FIRST PAGE TO SEE IF I MADE ANY REAL GOOFS. I DON'T WANT TO DISAPPOINT OR BE UNFAIR TO ANYONE.
Any comments?
Kathleen

You're on RF. Good morning all. Another glorious fall day here in the Chicago area. A large part of the population of Chicago is pretty sad today as the Cubs blew their chances for the pennant and the World Series last night. But..."wait until next year." Even if we get no other takers from now to March, we will have a super recital as it stands now. To help me choose my 2nd and 3rd choice, I printed out the list that Frycek so generously provided. Then I drew a line through those already spoken for. Then I circled the "7's". Now today, I am going to listen to all the 7's to see if I can find one that I love and that is within my range. For my third choice, I am a bit leary about picking an 8. (I just finished learning and playing an 8 prelude and it just about killed me.) However, if I hear one that I just MUST play (and remember it will be 18 months from now), I will pick that one. Kathleen

I'll sign up for another Op 30.
Let me do this:
First Recital: March 1, 2008 Op 30 #1 Second Recital: October 17, 2008 Op 30 #3 Third Recital: March 1, 2009 Op 30 #4
Might as well do them in order

I'm sorry PianoAgain. Of course, the 6/1 is yours. I got you mixed up with Pianolina...

Kathleen What you should be saying is that the 6/1 is mine PianoAgain, you just said that you'll do a different one. I'll hold you to that. Originally posted by Piano Again: I'll do a different one. It's now in quote so you can't edit it out.

Kathleen Hey... My avatar vanished. I think you did that to stop me. Playdom? Is that like Play-Doh? Of course I'm joking. I just happen to love 6/1 like crazy. You said first come first serve. I was here first, I just checked to see if 6/1 was the right one.

Ragnhild: I'm sorry if I got confused on the numbers of the 41/ mazurkas. Since the numbers of this opus are often called by something else, could you please indicate the key.
C# m E m B M Ab M
Thanks, Kathleen

To stick to Frycek's numbering (that are not the same as on my music) I will play Op 41.4 C# minor Op 41.1 E minor Op 41.3 Ab major Hopefully in this order, but since the C# minor is the hardest (awful lots of double #, and some tough stretching of fingers), I might have to change to 1,3,4 Ragnhild

OK, Ragnhild...I put you on the list for the above. The order is up to you, of course. But I just wrote them in the order that you "thought" you might be playing. I hope this is OK.
My apologies to Balakirev. I think with his abilities he can choose another that will show off his skills.
So sorry for the mix-up, Kathleen

Playadom: (Oooppsss, forgot the "a.")
What happened to your avatar? I'm glad you were joking about the 6/1. I have a feeling that as people start changing their minds, and choosing different mazurkas...more mix-ups might occur. I hope not.
If the error is my fault, then, of course, whoever stated their intention first, gets it. That's the only way to be fair.
But what could happen (to really drive me over the edge) is when people drop a piece which another had indicated they wanted...somewhere later in the thread.
I will try my best to keep a handle on this. Bear with me and be kind...I'm an old lady. Fycek has kindly offerred (actually I enlisted her) to be my assistant to keep tabs on everything.
My best to all, Kathleen

Gosh, Playadom...I don't know. If people start in to playing more than one then what will we have left for the other two recitals?
I can understand your desire, for I, also, would love to play two. Six months inbetween is a rather long time, I admit. The only reason for this is to commemorate either Chopin's birth or death. So we're talking a year and a half...which is a very long time. However, some people might need that long.
I don't see any real reason why a person can't play more than two. Most people (and I am only presuming) will only play one. But I could be wrong.
So, let's hear from other people on what they think about this.
