I am considering attending an adult piano camp this summer and am playing at about the early intermediate level. My goal this year is to become a solid intermediate level player. I take lessons weekly and practice an hour per day on average. I've found a few camps listed on the web including Piano'Scape and Summer Keys. The programs really look interesting. Has anyone here attended piano camp and which camp did you attend if I may ask? I would love to hear about it.

I would do a search here for the terms Piano Camp and see what people have said before. I know that Adagio/Michele, IPIBAHN/Sandy and Frycek/Joe have all been to camp, either Sonata or Summerkeys.

I'd love to go at some point, but I still have youngish kids and take a trip with them each year. I'm still giving it some thought, though.

I went to Summerkeys last year. I enjoyed the countryside, the town but don't feel I benefited very much from my lessons at all. I'm early advanced level, practice about four hours a day but haven't had lessons since I was a teenager (not by choice.) I went hoping to get help with "polishing" a piece already learned. That was a mistake. I think I would've done better if I'd gone with the idea of allowing the instructor start a piece with me - helping me to achieve a good foundation and effective practice techniques to continue with it. I think that would perhaps have been more beneficial. I don't think I was a very good "fit" for the program but everyone was very nice, kind, and unthreatening. I enjoyed myself immensely in some ways but felt it was a bit of a waste musically.

Slow down and do it right.

My experience was a little different from Frycek's. I thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from my week at Summerkeys. I've been taking weekly lessons for 6 years and found studying with someone whose teaching style was so different interesting and helpful. I enjoyed the group performance classes as well and the recital was my first experience 'performing.' It was not in the least intimidating (of course I was still a wreck that night!!).

There were some very advanced pianists the week I went and they performed solos and also accompanied other instruments after having only one week to prepare! While it may not be for everyone, I think it caters to all levels.

I'm in the process of figuring out my week to go this year and may even add the ensemble option!

It's the journey not the destination..

I've enjoyed my experiences at Sonata in Bennington Vermont. The website is sonatina.com. The website will answer alot of questions you may have. The environment is very supportive, and the camp doesn't operate only in summer.
