Hello This is my first time posting here and just wanted to introduce myself as well. I 50 and am thrilled to find out that there are other adult beginners in this forum. I had a few years of lessons when i was 10 but did not get that far from a beginner. After almost 35 years I began taking lessons for 11 months now. I find it very hard to keep up with the tempo and not to make lots of mistakes when playing pieces like Chopin valse op. 69 and op 70.no2. Its almost impossible for me to memorize. I am addicted to my upright piano. I play good when Im by myself but I cant fully perform when people are present around me. I hope Ill be able to learn playing Chopin Nocturne op 9 one day. Has any beginner played it before? If so how long did it take to learn it?

Welcome Haizel! Sounds like you are really enjoying the piano and are a motivated musician.

I love Nocturne Op. 9, No. 2. I learned it earlier this year. I am not exactly a beginner. Actually, there seem to be quite a few of us who are no longer "beginners," but either started as adults or returned as adult as I did (had about 8 yrs worth of lessons as a kid/teen before returning last year after a 13 year break). But, FWIW, the nocturne took me about 5 weeks to feel pretty comfortable with. Someone started a thread on this piece not too long ago. Try looking here: Op. 9, No. 2 thread

Again, welcome, and enjoy!

My view of this forum is that it's aimed at either beginning adults or returning adults. Generally, those who started young and stuck with it have a completely different relationship with piano playing.

Oops. I realized that I said I learned it "earlier this year"... Of course, I meant last year. Boy, time flies. I must be having fun... \:\)

Yup, that is my sense as well.

Definitely. Unlike me, they can actually *play* the piano.
