Since I actually have a job I am paid--and expected--to do, I won't be able to write a 1101 essay on this sonnet, but I WILL give you an excellent one sentence response:

All the answers to Shakespeare's questions are addressed in an absolutely terrific book I am currently reading, called "This is your brain on music," by Daniel Leviton. I was going to wait until I finished it and then start a thread reviewing it, but I'll give a little bit of foreshadowing... he summarizes all the cognitive neuroscience work on music perception and memory and explains why music affects us emotionally and how it is we are able to differentiate the sound of a piano from a violin and how we organize the soundwaves that hit our eardrums into pitch, rhythm, tempo, etc. Absolutely fascinating, but I have to get back to work before I hit that 1101 word mark despite my best intentions.

Monica, did I count three sentences in your one sentence response? laugh Perhaps the fact that I am not a Ph.D. has caused me to miscount. I was once accepted into grad school, but I never matriculated. Life got in the way.

Well, if I had said I was going to write a 3-sentence response I would have violated the rules of the "1" thread. wink

I am often guilty of using extremely long sentences which run on forever and never really say anything of value as this one is doing at this very moment in time. It is much better style, I think, to use short, concise, sentences whose meanings are clearly understood by any and all who care to read them regardless of the educational levels of those particular individuals in question. laugh

I did learn to write more concisely in college, thanks to a rather curmudgeonly English professor who insisted on short sentences. It seems that I have reverted to my wicked ways over the intervening years.

By the way, Mr. S-H, matriculation always sounded to me like something that shouldn't be done in a public place. help

I have just one step left...

That's one small step for Mankind, but one giant leap for (a) man.

No, I don't think I can; I don't think I will ever reach 500 posts.

Is anyone watching the Super Bowl? One cool traditional show before the National Anthem was performed by Billy Joel. Billy Joel is one of the first performers to ever perform twice for the Super Bowl.

Billy Joel is a awesome pop rock piano artist.

The Super Bowl game will be broadcast to over one billion audiences worldwide....

Peace!

Yea he was like twelve or something first time. But all the old celuloid prints have long since burned up.

It was nice to see they had sound with the film this time, though.

It is 10 degrees in Lexington today, and our furnace stopped working this morning. mad

Plus it was a snow day, so I get to spend my day with my 7 year old son going stir crazy in a freezing house waiting for the heater people to show up. Yikes.

...but I'm also getting in more piano time, hurray!

Cold as a witch's basebal mitt here too but no snow.

Monday's "New Music Day" here so I'm about to leae behind a page of Ana Magdalena's notebook, and do something TOTALLY different - some Alison Krauss (but that piece is too easy - I'll be done by Wednesday.)

I've got the rest of this month for sitting at home so I'm trying to get in as much new stuff as I can before it's back to the ol 9 to 5 again.
