I am teaching a keyboard literture class, to a group of adults who love piano music, but they are not piano majors, I can't think of a less academical name for the class at the moment, I don't want to use Keyboard Literture, anyone can be a little help here?

Thanks.

What exactly do you teach in keyboard literature?

Bios. of composers, their major keyboard pieces, musical character/style of the period they are living in,some harmonic analysis of an example of their pieces, performance suggestions, musical form of the time, and how it is applied to their compositions.

Just use the word SEX or maybe ZEN in the title. It will be a big hit.

I'm not sure what I'd call it, I've been trying to think of something and am drawing a blank so far. I definitely think it needs a new name though, as I never would have guessed what it was about. Something along the lines of what apple suggested, like Piano Literature, or the Key to Piano Literature.

Okay. So taking Chas' and apple's suggestions, we get The Zen of Sex at The Keys. Might get good enrollment, but Add/Drop will be busy the second day of the semester. :p

How about something mundane but descriptive, such as Famous [if they are considered famous, otherwise remove] Composers and Their Pieces? Or Composers and Composition Analysis?

Famous composers and their Pieces seem to be a pretty descriptive title....thanks for help..trying to avoide anything 2 academical, so compostion and analysis will not be the choice?

what do you think about keyboard classics?

Keyboard Classics and their Composers?
Composers and their Keyboard Classics?

Which is the main emphasis, the famous composers or the famous pieces?

Keyboard Classics sounds to me more like a piano class. I think AdagioM's suggestions would be better.

Sounds like a great class, wish I could take it!

Although they are not piano majors, will the students who take your class be people who play piano (or some other instrument)? If so, I think you don't have to worry about it sounding a little bit academic or serious.

But either way, I think something like "Famous Piano Composers and Their Music" would be good (ok, maybe that's a little wordy...) But I think having famous in the title will get people's attention, and it makes it accessable.

Let us know what you decide, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's curious.

The Class will be called Keyboard Klassics.

The school that I teach, our mission is inspired by that we concur with educator and music philosopher Christopher Small in his book Musicking which suggests that music should be viewed as an act instead of a thing. Who is doing it? Where? And who is listening? We begin to understand music as a verb instead of a noun. Mr. Small states that "the act of musicking establishes in the place it is happening a set of relationships, and it is in those relationships that the meaning of the act lies".

I thought by choose letter 'K' instead of 'C' for Classics..will actually make this class more meaningful so everyone can participate actively.

Thanks all for the wonderful ideas.
