Hi there,

I was practicing the famous prelude(In C?) From bach. First page was kinda easy. But my sheetmusic has not got the fingers. So for the right hand 1,2,4. I don't know if these are the right fingers. If I play it for a while my palm/hands/fingers are starting to hurt. Should I play it with 1,3,5 instead? I'm used to 124 now.

I'm kinda new with the classical music.

Here's mine on my newly arrived out of tune clavichord. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2iq18nDEkg

If it is this prelude there is no way you should feel any tiredness at all. Tiny light finger actions will do it.

snobbyish, yet maybe helpful.

I loved watching your youtube performance of that Bach prelude.

Can I request you play:
Bach's C Major Short Prelude BWV 933
Bach's C Minor Short Prelude BWV 999
Those are the pieces I'm working on and am searching for an MP3 model to learn from.

I would love to but I'm in Nova Scotia and my clavichord is in London. When I'm back from holiday in two weeks I shall be happy to oblige. It's actually in tune now!

I've just worked out. BMV 999 is exceptionally beautiful. It's a lute prelude. I grew up with Segovia's recording. See if you can find him or Julian Bream.

Fingering itself rarely causes pain/tension. It's how the fingers are used, so my guess is that it's a technical problem.

Also, good technique is flexible, and if you can't change fingerings because you're used to 124, then that's further evidence that your playing is tense.

Make sure you free up your arm and that you've got a teacher who plays at a fairly advanced level.

"If we continually try to force a child to do what he is afraid to do, he will become more timid, and will use his brains and energy, not to explore the unknown, but to find ways to avoid the pressures we put on him." (John Holt)

Hey Cheung, I believe the original version of the sheet music by Bach doesn't have any finger numbers AT ALL except for a couple at the very end. The UrText for example had no numbers. So any numbers you find will simply be suggestions by editors.

NorwegianForest, there are only two manuscripts in existence with Bach's own fingering. Neither are this prelude.

Cheung, find a variety of editions and choose which fingering you prefer. I hope you took on board how totally relaxed your hands should be.

Okay thanks for the quci response,

So If I play it with 124, Can I get some problems in the future? I remember my teacher said once that there are mistakes you can make that are hard to recover(Don't know right word in english)
So Hope it will not effect in the future if I play the chords with the WRONG fingers.
