I'm trying to summon up the courage to start on preparing for these exams, and would really appreciate having contact with someone whose mind I could pick occasionally.

Hi Alex,

I may do some AMEB exams at some point but I'm not sure, as I need a whole lot of practice first. I don't think passing grade 1 would be that difficult, but then again I havn't done it so I can't be sure.

What makes you want to do the exams? What does your teacher say on the subject?

P.S. I love Tassie, great place, great people!

Thanks to you both. My teacher has suggested that I do it, starting at the preliminary grade.

Hi, I did the AMEB exams all the way until 7th. At my school with my teacher, it seemed like that was the only way in existence to learn piano.

I'm just coming back into piano after 9 years away, and I'm considering doing the AMEB exams again. Eventually get around to finally getting my AMUS.

I can't compare it to anything else, because it's all I've known, but I could certainly answer some questions.

I did the AMEB exams until I stopped while working toward the AmusA. That was also a few years ago (o.k...maybe 15years!).

I'd recommend your teacher as the best source of info...assuming he/ she has been teaching it to everyone else, they'd know what you need to know. As DamienD says " ...it seemed like that was the only way in existence to learn piano..." which I agree with if you are looking to learn classical piano in Australia.

Like DamienD, I am also looking to finish that darned AmusA.
