Does anyone else subscribe to Pianist Magazine and play the beginners pieces which come with magazine? I'm constantly looking for easy music, at my level, which sounds good and really is easy. Theres lots of good easy music in the magazine and in the latest issue #39 I found "La Candeur by Bergmuller" on page 25, track 2 on the CD, it's superb, one of those pieces, which once you get into it, you can't stop playing, probably because it's "doable". Has anyone else tried it?

Yes, I found Pianist magazine very good at selecting beginner pieces that I could play. And they didn't feel like some dumbed-down-Mary-had-a-little-lamb type music.

Yep...this is a great magazine with different music for all levels of players. It has great articles in there too.

I think I recall this magazine coming up in the past and someone saying we can't get it in the U.S. Is this true? If not, does anyone have subscription information?

Of course, I still have Chang's book printed out by my chair, and I haven't gotten very far in it!

No it's not true that you can't get it in the states. I have been a subscriber for several issues. See here for subscription info (click on the US flag in the "subscribe to Pianist" area). It takes a while for the subscription to start but once it does they've been bang on schedule.

I found this website about Burgmuller which has free downloads of some of his music, including "La Candour" and "L'Arabesque".

International Piano is good as well...

Crusader, if you like the Burgmüller études, here in the ABF there is a post started by Dannylux with a download link for the book which includes 'La Candeur' (Burgmügler op 100, 25 easy études).

My favorite étude from that book is nº2, Arabesque, but the speed is out of my reach for the moment...

Just to stay on topic: I also get Pianist Magazine at home and love to play the beginner scores
Hopefully some day I'll be able to handle the intermediate ones (or the advanced, wow!)

I love pianist magazine. The scores are so cool and looking at the advanced ones really gives me something to aspire toward!
Plus, some of the articles, although British oriented, are very interesting.

I subscribe to it and I haven't gotten that issue yet. Going to have to email them.

Hi Crusader - yes I can manage La Candeur all be it a little on the slow side - Bergmuller's music seems to go where you somehow expect it to - which does make it easier, and quite addictive too. I think it is aimed at chilren really.........think what you like lol!
I've not seen the magazine - I suspect its to order only - our newsagents only stock the ones they know will sell out. I'll try and check it out online.

I did not renew my subscription. As I took a huge break from piano for a while I was not reading it and was gathering a pile.

Now that I am back, I will work my way through the pieces.

The magazine is very good.

Just my luck, I which I'd seen that before, yesterday I paid $5.99 to download it from virtualsheetmusic.com, that means I wasted a whole $5.99 (£3.00), I'm now going to make myself a hot, sweet, cup of tea to help get over the shock.

Hi caroloz, Sorry for not replying sooner, blame it on the Christmas festivities. The larger W.H.Smith stores stock Pianist Magazine, it's a little less expensive on subscription though.

Yes. I would say this is my first proper piece that I have learned. I play it everyday. I've only done 1 other two handed piece which was only 12 bars long and I've don't even remember the name of it now.
"La Candeur" isn't a hard piece to learn but of course getting it perfect (the dynamics) will take time. I would say though that without the CD it would sound terrible if I based it on the midi files.

You can get here in Ireland no problem. But my local Easons (equivalant to WH Smith) stopped getting my Blues & Soul Magazine. I now have to subscribe. It's shelfspace wasn't making enough money.
