Hello... after years of practice, my 4th and 5th fingers are still weak (or not strong enough) I avoided it so many years but it's time for me to address it.
I know Hanon is good but can anyone recommend any particular exercise to improve these fingers? How long should I play each day?
Your help is appreciated!

I think you're asking in the wrong place BlingBling. This forum is devoted to students who began as adults. You might have better luck over in the Pianist Corner or the Piano Teachers forum. Better yet, I would recommend asking in the Student\'s Corner over at PianoForum.net. While this place is great for camaraderie, I think over there is the best place for this type of question. Be prepared, they're none too keen on Hanon.

The Fingerpower books have been mentioned here recently (see thread on handedness). Maybe they address your issue.

practicing 45 trill would help, plus thumb down to a key at the same time. but don't try to do such a trill with 123 fingers down together, which might hurt yourself. also, make it a habit when you make fingering for a piece: not to avoid using 4 & 5 fingers. if you use 4 and 5 fingers frequently enough, you will see a lot of improvement after a while.

I asked my teacher today about strengthening the 4th and 5th fingers of my left hand, and rather than doing many exercises, she'd rather have me learn some Bach Inventions so that left hand gets a lot of use just like the right. We're going to start with No. 13.

inventin 13, go for it! but be warned, it is difficult to play it well especially in fast tempo, and has a lot of LH work out.
