Does anyone here own a Wittner metronome? If so, do you have the one with or without the bell sound? I'm about to buy one, and am not sure whether or not the bell is useful or not...I've heard mixed things about it on other websites. Any opinions greatly appreciated!

Make sure you get one with a flashing light.

In loud passages, it's impossible to hear the bell or the clicking sound.

In my case, it is impossible to hear the music over the bell and the clicking sound smile

I find the metronome annoying, so when I do use it, it's without the bell. It's a personal preference thing -- there's bound to be people here who do like the bell, and I accept there will be occasions when the bell is actually useful, even for me. smile

I'm with bruceee - there are times when the bell is useful and times when it's not. I think whenever you can afford to it's always better to go with something that has all the bells ( laugh ) and whistles you think you'll need. Maybe you won't use all the features often, but when you do need them it's going to be frustrating if they're not there. And you can always turn the bell off, but if you don't have one, you surely can't turn it on!

We have both a Wittner mechanical metronome with a bell and and a Sabine electronic metronome which gets the same functionality by changing the tone. I do use the bell/tone feature occasionally, but wouldn't miss it if I didn't have it. I will say that the electronic Sabine is much more accurate than the Wittner.
