Not at all. Rach had more like a 13th. I bet it would be amazing to watch him play 10.1... [/b]
You're what? 14? Plenty of time to grown into a 13.

Hi, I'm new to this process--I see Amelialw has requested 25.5 "as well"--does that mean it's up for grabs? I love that one; it's CRAZY! I'd love to do it if no one else is.

The so-called "Wrong Note" study? I'll put you down for it (sorry Amelia!).

Welcome, neighbor - you're only 120 miles south, so I guess we're neighbors smile ! We're also neighbors in that we have adjacent etudes in the Op. 25.

BTW will you be learning 25/5, or do you already know it? It doesn't matter, just curious...

I've been listening to Murray Perahia playing 10/9, and I think I'm in love! If it's okay with AQP, I'd really like to learn this one.

I would very much like to practice op 10 no 8 , but I am not at all sure that I can perform it in a year.....But this is still a challenge for adult beginners, is it ?

Of course, take Op.10 No.9, I have to study both No.5 and No.9 for the Conservatoire, so that's fine!

yes Op.10 No.8 is a challenge, it was my 1st etude that I started and I have taken almost a year to master it. After that though, the next few will be easier to learn. I recomend that you get a good recording and listen to it.

it's ok Greg...I will still learn Op.25 No.5 anyway

Schubertarian, silla beat you to 10/9 by three posts frown Still, we have others available, like 25/10...

silla, you are down for 10/9!

Ragnhild, you have 10/8! (And you can effect amazing improvement if you work hard, work smart, and believe in yourself. I know you can do it! thumb )

Amelia, you can be a backup for 25/5 if that's okay.

Thanks, Gerg! I have just read through 25/5 a few times. Wondering what my teacher will think of my committing to play it in a year. Oh well, I'm committed to giving it my best shot. I'm sure the etude will be somewhat fluent by then, but make no claims as to doing it justice.

Wow! We only have 6 missing so far. We do have a realistic chance to try for the complete set!

We need to recruit some new members. I have a friend whom I just might persuade, she is at a level that would be sufficient to do any of the remaining one in a year. Anyone else?

Sorry, Schubertian. frown I hope you will still select an etude to play. I wish I were capable of tackling the more difficult ones, but this is not too realistic right now -- most of the remaining "available" etudes scare me to death! :p

Thanks AQP, and I'm glad you'll still be studying 10/9. I'm going to do my best, but it's also good to know that backup could be available, just in case. (Have you already been working on it? May I ask for advice from time to time?)

Greg, thank you so much for organizing all this!

Of course Silla, I'll be very pleased to try to help you. Yes, I'm working on it right now. For the left hand, in the first page, try the fingering: 531414, I began with 541414 but I changed to 531414 because, to me, it's much more comfortable. Play the left hand always legato. When you start studying this etude, feel free to ask anything.

Thanks AQP, I will definitely try that fingering. I started reading through last night -- my score is marked 541414, but that initial 5-4 reach is so awkward for me, I wound up doing 531313. Your 531414 should combine the best of both methods. Now I can't wait to get home and work on it some more! smile

Can somebody tell me the level of difficulty for 10.8 ? I did not find it among the other graded pieces.

I've practiced hands separate so far and it seems doable with a lot of repeating patterns, but of course speed will be a great challenge to me even if I have a year.
