Peyton, you have a good voice and the song is nice. I wonder if you could tell me, how do you write songs. Do you first sing the melody or how? However, good job! I even downloaded it:)

I write in different ways. Sometimes I'll get a story in my head and start writing lyrics then sit down to find some chords to go with it. I'm working on one now called The Better Man. I had just a rough idea of the story. I did a few lines and then sat down at the piano. Once I had some chords I changed the lines to fit the cadence and melody. So they are sort of working hand in hand.
