DragonPianoPlayer, nice job with your 2 pieces. You played them nicely.

LaValse, your piece doesn't sound weird at all. Nice playing.

Rosanna, the version of "To Zanarkand" you found is the DoReMi version.

After listening to the Chopin Prelude recital, these seem pretty lame but they were fun to learn and only took a couple of weeks. The pieces I'm working on at lessons provide much more of a technical challenge but may also never be "recital" worthy.

The first one is from Martha Mier's Book 1. Some of you will recognize it from the sightreading thread awhile ago. I'm working on one from book 2 now and it will probably be my November recital piece.

Well done, I played it better at home.

These pieces are not lame at all. Very clean playing and you played with a lot of feeling.

Which Martha Meier books are these from?

Honli, Thanks for the complement.

Thanks! I love playing them. The books are the Romantic Impressions series. I ordered the CD from somewhere online (I forget) It covers books 1,2 and 3 and I've also purchased book 4 (I'm hoping to get my teacher to record these for me smile ). They are beautiful pieces and provide lots of room for expression. Very attainable - even books 3 and 4.

I like you playing very much. You are very expressive; the sound is very sweet. You also play very smoothly. To me they are recital worthy.

Honnli, thanks about the info on Zanarkand; I believe you played the Yamaha version? So Monica, now you know!

Well, I've been lurking for a few weeks now, I suppose it's about time I post some music!

This is the g minor prelude from the WTC I.
WARNING: this is not polished, and I only did one take of it, so enjoy with caution smile

This was recorded on a Yamaha U3.

Very good job, Jay.

Your left hand is especially nice and clear.

Are you going to submit this or something else for our Nov. Recital?

Monica will start a thread with directions on Nov.1.

The deadline for submittals is Nov.14.

Thanks a lot for posting your Bach, and welcome to ABF.

Hi Jay.g, that's very nice and clean playing, and I am impressed it's from one take. I always mess up a good number of times before I get anything passable. I like the sound of the U3. Welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome and all the kind replies!

Mel, I haven't made any plans yet regarding the November recital; I doubt I'm going to be submitting the same piece! In the same session, I also recorded the fugue and the d minor fantasia by mozart, so let's see!

Rosanna, I know the feeling - recordings are never the way you want them to be. I'm not satisfied with this recording by any means! However, it was far better than the other two pieces I recorded, so I posted this one smile I bought the U3 last year, and it was a huge step up from my ancient clavinova, both in sound and touch. However, I plan on upgrading to a grand within the next year. Hopefully sooner than later.

Rerun, LaValse and I played it better at home, thanks for the encouraging words!

Hey DPP and gang,

Well, you asked for it smile . As you guys probably know, I started playing in Feb. and to make matters worse, I can't read music, but I've been trying to pull together something to play for my nearly 90 yr. old mother, similar to what she and her brothers and sisters used to play in the 40s.

Here's a slow 12 bar/ boogie. You may have to turn the volume up a little, it was a little low said some of the folks at PM.

Thanks gang smile .....

wow rerun, that's by ear? You know how I admire anyone who can do that. And really, it's very nice rhythm and harmony. Love it! (Sounds like you are doing PM? Dare I get you started on that? laugh )

Hey Rosanna,

Yup, been a PMer since Feb.. The truth of the matter is, if Lee can do it, anyone can laugh . But we do have a lot of fun over there.

In my mind, there are ear players, and then ear players who don't know it yet. smile

There is some speculation going on that he is really an Artificial Intelligence computer program designed to hang out on piano forms and lure people into Piano Magic, although we're not entirely sure about the "Intelligence" bit. Ha ha, just kidding (maybe). laugh

Hey all,

Thanks Mark, much appreciated! smile

Matt's pretty close, Lee is actually a contrived cartoon character not unlike a shrimp on a hook, trolling thru PW when the ouboard motor starts on the first pull laugh .

Hey, it's not my fault. I was normal before I joined the night class over at PM. smile

I think Lee is tied up on other matters this week, but he'll be back (just like Arnold smile ).

Seriously, I can only hope one day to be able to play as well as Lee, Matt, Nell, Bob Muir, Balladeer, Deep Elam, Troy, Elssa, SpongeBob, Doug, Honeycomb and many others over at PM. smile

LaValse – I can’t open your piece :-(
Explorer just opens to "this page cannot be found".

I played it better at home – Both very, very pretty! Yesterday was especially sweet.

jay.g – I agree, great trills. I’m a sucker for ‘em! Great playing all-around. Oh, and welcome to the forums! smile

Rerun – Groovy, man! Seriously, I listened to this last night and had it going through my head for about 2 hours! Catchy!
p.s. – please don’t ever change your avatar – that STILL cracks me up! laugh
