I just bought a beautiful 1968 Schimmel player piano (sn- 105876) from a friend, but have no clue what model it actually is. And since I don't play piano (my wife does, it's a surprise for her) I'd like to know if there's an easy way to tell what model I have. Thanks for your help.

Hi kevrides,

greeting from Germany Brunswiek. This is the
town where Schimmel comes from. I own a Schimmel
piano myself. I've got to know the people from
Schimmel as very friendly and helpful.
You can try to get the information directly from
Schimmel. Here is the mail-adress
info@schimmel-piano.de.

Best wishes

Marcel.

Thanks Marcel,

I tried to contact Schimmel about a week ago and have yet to hear a reply. Maybe I will try again in a few days.

Can you (or anyone else) tell me if the width of the piano has to do with the model number? I measured mine today and it was 156cm wide. Are the new Schimmels I've been reading about on here 169cm, 189cm, or 213cm wide?

Thanks for everyone's help.

Kevrides :

The width measurement of a piano is not significant, since all pianos are the same "width" - within a few cms. - which is the measurement of the keyboard plus the end blocks.

Grands are generally classified by their length as follows :

Baby Grands : 4-1/2 ft to 5-1/2 ft (137 cm. - 167 cm.)
Medium Grands : 5-1/2 ft to 7-1/2 ft (167 cm. - 228 cm.)
Concert Grands : 7-1/2 ft to 9-1/2 ft (228 cm. - 228 cm.)

As for model numbers, Schimmel has several models in the 169cm length, all "K" models; the K is followed by 169 plus a letter or two designating the cabinet style. On most grands the model number can usually be found on the plate, under the music desk, in front of the tuning pins. Slide the music desk off the piano - or back far enough - and you should find the model number and serial number as well.

Regards,

BruceD

Hi kevrides,

most of the employees were at holiday until
this week so perhaps they have a lot of mails to
answer.
Do you already know this site?
http://www.schimmel-auswahlcentrum.de/
This is the web site from the retail shop which
is placed directly to the Schimmel company. You
can walk from the shop directly into the
production line. ;-)
On the web site you can find under "Kontakt"
a mail address of the business manager. Try
to contact him. Use a serious mail address because
his spam filter is very restrictive. ;-)
Perhaps it will take some time to get an answer.

Good luck,

Marcel.

That's very good to know. Thank you very much. I'll definitely do that.
