glad to be on board; happy holidays, lipstick.

Welcome Lipstick. Many of us are older beginners, or retreads. What are you studying now? Do you have a teacher, or are you teaching youself. We are glad that you have joined us. Gaby Tu

i was taking lessons with a classical oriented teacher, but now i'm studying with a jazz teacher and it's more fun for me. i'm working on "begin the beguine" and "what is this thing called love?" it's not easy either way, but so challenging. are you studying with a teacher? lipstick

Welcome to the forum, lipstick. We're normally a chattier group, but forum traffic is slow on Christmas Day. ...speaking of which, gotta get back to the turkey...

Welcome to the forum, lipstick. Always glad to see another older beginner. When I started a little over a year ago at 50 I thought I was unique. But some days on this forum it seems like we out-number the youngsters. Glad to have you aboard!

i'm trying to play some standards now. i was playing some beginner old folk music which wasn't easy. i purchased a one hand cole porter book and my teacher is giving me some chords to go with it.i like the standards because i know what they're supposed to sound like. when i play something unfamiliar i don't know if it's right, even if the notes are accurate. what do you like to play?

Welcome lipstick! We're a pretty diverse group here with fans of just about all piano genres but it seems like the majority are fans of new age, classical or both. If you have a listen to our recitals (see the link on the thread entitled "Important Topics") you'll see a little bit of everything - including some standards! Perhaps you can contribute to our standards library in the future!
Welcome to the forum.

Hi, lipstick! Yeah, you've certainly got some company in the "older beginner" group. I turned 55 in June and finally bought a piano and began taking the lessons I'd wanted to take for the previous 50 years! It's been a blast, and there are many wonderful and supportive folks on the forum to help you through those doubts and difficulties. Welcome!

lipstick, you'll feel right at home in our jazz thread then. At first I thought the only interest was with classical and new age since that was the predominant discussion.
But apparently a lot of folks here have a desire to create their own music and the jazz study group is taking off to my surprise. So now AB forum will now have a wider representation of styles.
Welcome!
