Good choice - this piece is so beautiful. I think it's doable as well, but in a few years...not yet.

Thanks, Mike; I actually bought it some time ago. Opened it up, took one look at it, and put it in my pile of "good things to leave propped open on my music desk to impress visitors senseless but which I have no prayer of learning this decade." laugh

Ludwig van Beethoven
Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, op. 73 ["Emperor"]

(but considering it took me about a half a year to get through the Croatian Rhapsody, I suspect I'll not be playing this one in this lifetime)

...it is in me. It's just not ready yet!.
That's my favorite piece too!

While that piece is getting ready, I would like to be able to play Chopin Polonaise in Ab major (op. 53.)

Monica, that is brilliant!, I love it. I think I will go out and buy the most difficult piece known to mankind and prop it up on the fallboard of my piano just for *show*. I mean we've all heard of people who go out and buy a tier one piano just to use as a piece of furniture right?, what's the difference?.

Or how about the people who put a player system on a tier one piano....[looks up the definition of blasphemy!!]. wink

I'm one step ahead of you SH. I don't have to go out and buy any difficult music, I have plenty of it laying around already.

Mike beat me to it Mr SH...but on the off chance you might be serious, let me know & I'll mail you some.

...if I could play only a fraction of the sheet music I have I would be in heaven!

I do the opposite. When I'm done ploughing through Bach, I cover it up with my 5-year-old's piano exercises - nice big notes with maybe four measures per page - and I feel like that's about right for anyone's expectations of me!

Someday I'd like to get through Debussey's Claire de Lune. It's a tough read - five flats in the key signature, then it switches to five sharps, then back to five flats again. At least it's not as long as some of the concertos some of you aspire to. This thread is also making me realize I need to buy more piano music...

laugh LOL! That's a good strategy, too, gravy! With my technique, there's always the danger that some guest might actually ask me to PLAY the difficult decoy piece I propped up there. eek

Welcome to the forum, btw. smile

Opus45, the Emperor Concerto would've been my second choice, if Strat would've let us name more than one piece, but he didn't. wink

At the office, we have all the radios tuned to NPR (none of us can tolerate radio commercials) and today our local station played someone performing this very concerto and my ears locked in on it playing in the background & I wasn't able to concentrate on our work related lunch conversations and this didn't go unnoticed and I had to explain myself.

Fortunately, I help them make alot of money & they forgive me my occasional eccentricities (sp? will they ever get the spell check working here?).

If I could play L'Isle Joyeuse perfectly from beginning to end, that's all I would ever need.

Tough to narrow down to one.
