Okay, first a huge mahalo (thanks) to all who put this together. I really don't know how you guys do this but then my VCR still blinks 12:00.

Second, I don't feel right reviewing most of the music here 'cause most of you are above my ability. So I'll make some brief comments.

Lastly, I work from the back to give some love to the "11th hour people" (like me).

70. Hisalone (Joel) - Bumble Boogie Holy Cats! Your timing and rhythm is great. How'd you do that? Please don't ever follow me again.

71. Mark... - Spooky Story & American HymnWell done. Nice feeling

72. Mar_red - Moon RiverVery pretty, clearly beyond the 1.5 years you've been playing.

73. IPIBAHN - Sandy - Tarantella - ProkofievWell played. Nice tempo.

74. bruceee - Prelude Op 28, No 20I love Chopin. Nice touch.

75. etorrales - Nocturn in Eb MajorOh my, I do love Chopin. Beautifully played.

76. Extraghost - River Flows In YouI'm not familiar with this piece but I liked it. Nice light touch.

77. Theowne - Prelude to the "Tombeau de Couperin" Suite Beautiful.

16 flyingfroggy - Prelude in C# minor Op. 3 No. 2, Sergei Rachmaninoff
Admirable job. Anything by Rachmaninoff has always been difficult for me. You seem to have captured the drama of the piece quite well even through the rather poor quality of the recording itself. The clipping is probably due to the limitations of the microphone in capturing the large dynamic range of your playing. Great job.

17 Orez Eno - Comptine d'un autre ete: l'apres, Yann Tierson
A second interpretation of this beautiful piece for the same recital. Very nice job. Yours is a bit more introspective in character than Benny's version. I think I like yours best, but they are both well done.

18 glitzer - Petite valse from Kinderalbum, M. E. Bossi
I agree with your assessment of the piece. It brings one back to a simpler time. It is, after all, a piece meant to be enjoyed by children, and you played it very nicely. I disagree with your assessment of the recording as not fit for public display, though.

19 Eternal - Right Here Waiting, Richard Marx (not Karl laugh )
This is a very beautiful song, and your version captures the feeling in the original. Excellently played, but with perhaps just a touch too much pedal, IMHO. I found myself singing along as I listened. Very enjoyable.

20 TrueBeginner - Les Reves Du Matin ( The Morning Dreams ), Paul De Senneville
Doesn't sound like a nightmare to me. I enjoyed listening. I still think pieces with varying and more or less constant arpeggios in the left hand are difficult, and they take quite a bit of time to master. I know I couldn't have played this after nine months of playing, so I think you have done extremely well with this beautiful piece. We've heard a good deal of De Senneville the past few recitals, and he never disappoints.

21 Laura D - Sonata K. 95, L. 358, Domenico Scarlatti
Yes, this is a fun piece, and a difficult one to master (for me, at least). You played it very nicely with feeling and facility. Great job!

22 John Frank - Hava Nagila, trad.
I remember playing this piece as a teenager. I loved it. I would compete with myself to see how fast I could play it and still be reasonably accurate. I would start off slow and gradually increase the tempo until I was practically tying my fingers into knots. I played it almost every day, and had many hours of fun with it, and my Mom (God rest her soul) endured the agony without complaint. You have inspired me to try it again, I think, since I haven't played it in many years. Very nicely played, John Frank. I love this piece.

23 Honnli / Steven - Suteki Da Ne, Nobuo Uematsu & Kazushige Nojima
Excellent! You captured the emotion of this piece well with your dynamics. As a non-gamer, I have found myself constantly surprised by the beauty of much of the music from games. My idea of game music was the old Super Mario Bros. theme. laugh Things have definitely changed for the better.

24 Casyopea - Radio Ballet, Eluvium (Matthew Cooper)
Nice job! I am not familiar with the piece, but it does sound vaguely familiar as though I have heard it somewhere without really knowing what it was. It sounds rather difficult, and you played it very well.

25 epf - La Styrienne (Op 100, No. 14), J. Friedrich Burgmüller
A difficult piece well played. Nice job, epf. Any mistakes were, indeed, quite small. They were not noticeable at all (if they exist.)

26 Diane Cornellier - Minuet in G, J. S. Bach
Wonderful job, Diane. You have only six months of playing under your belt? I am truly impressed.

27 Serge88 - Imagine, John Lennon
Fabulous job! I know you are getting better. Maybe you are lucky, too. Who knows? wink In either case, I enjoyed listening.

28 Seaside_Lee - What A Wonderful World, Bob Thiele
I knew I was going to enjoy this one before I even started listening. What a great old song. Who could ever forget Louis Armstrong's version of this one. Another surprisingly emotional version is the recent one by country singer Ray Price. Yours is truly enjoyable as well, with the emotional impact of the original along with the inimitable Seaside touch. You really have to learn to cook some different recipes, Lee. One of my favorite easy recipes is cooked all in one dish. I place green beans at one end, chicken breast in the center, and cubed potato at the other, half-fill the dish with water and dollop a bit of butter on top. Then I sprinkle it with dry Italian dressing mix (Good Seasons brand), and bake it for a couple of hours at 375 F. Delicious and easy. But back to the music, Great job!

29 Copper - Here There and Everywhere, Lennon & McCartney
Another wonderful Beatles tune. I see you played this from a fake book with simple chords in the left hand. It works for this piece. Some songs work best with simple accompaniment. I enjoyed listening to it.

30 Mike White Yamaha G3 & P80 - Granada, Isaac Albeniz
Those arpeggios are difficult for everyone, not just for you. And that isn't the only difficult part of this piece, there is some trickiness in the right hand as well. Excellent job!

Everything is terrific so far. I am looking forward to the rest as I have time to listen and enjoy.

Next 10...

60. Babs - Prelude in B Minor (op28,no.6)
You balance the left hand melody well. Good job.

61. Oxfords Gal - Clowns OP 39 No. 20 Short, sweet and bright.

62. bluekeys - Sonata in C (K545)The more I play the more I realize that Mozart is not easy. Nicely done.

63. Euan Morrison - Vesper (from Casino Royale) I have not seen the movie but I liked this piece. There is a sadness in it. You play well.

64. AdagioM/Michele - Vals No. 1 from Valses PoeticosVery pretty. Your experience shows.

65. Piano*Dad - Waltz in C-sharp minor Op. 64 no. 2I love Chopin. Well played, I didn't even hear the edit.

66. ddh - Daniel - Wiegenliedchen 124.6 (Little lullaby)Very pretty. Not bumpy at all. You should play more classical.

67. cscl - Sonatina in C (Op. 36, No. 3, I-II)I liked both movements. I'm glad to hear others have to squeeze recordings in between the activities of life. Anyway, good job.

68. polostrings - ImagineHey Cutie, what are you doing after the recital? Seriously, you have made such great progress, I know, I've watched you. Your ability to deliver under pressure is something I really admire about you. That and the sweetness and devotion that you apply to the things you love.

69. Kawai, Hi - Dragon Fly Should be Dragging Fly. Riddled with mistakes and uneven. Let's hope you teacher never hears it!

Kawai , HI , thank you for your nice words. Have a look at Seaside Lee’s level of playing after nearly 2 years of learning

http://www.pianomagic.com/VirtualVacation/3PMMOLondonSeasideLee.wmv

In my opinion Seaside Lee back then was already a master of piano!

In my case my childhood lessons on accordion help a great deal especially as far as my RH is concerned. It’s amazing to what extent one’s childhood command of an instrument is engraved in one’s muscles, brain.
Having returned to music in 2006 I returned to the accordion and then in 2007 switched to the piano.

It’s very nice you like my countryman’s - Chopin’s music. As a child I happened to strike a few times on the keys of HIS piano. It was a very old ruined piano. It was placed in a very old dilapidated house. Some years later it was bought and restored by very rich man. But now I can say I “played” on HIS instrument smile .

Wonderful recital! Here's what I've listened to so far:

01. Lisztener - "Gone”: This is really gorgeous. Your playing is very expressive. One for the iPod!

02. dannylux / Mel - Glinka Nocturne in E flat: Love those 2 against 3’s; you do them very well. I don’t! Interesting that nocturnes were happening all over, suddenly. Was it Field’s fault?

03. AnthonyB - Stella Del Mattino: Star of the Morning? This really sparkles! You’ve come a long way in 10 months; did you have prior experience? Really nice playing.

04. Ode2Joy - Prelude in F minor BWV 881: Very nice Bach. Bach scares me; I salute you!

05. Mr. super-hunky - *Magicland*: This is beautiful, haunting, and will make a great cheap Christmas gift indeed! I do miss your acoustic piano, though. Will you re-post when you re-record?

06. jazzyprof - Etude op.25 #1 (Aeolian Harp): It does sound like a harp! Nice work, and a great way to keep it in your fingers, too. Where do you put your Zoom when you record? I’m still experimenting with mine (H2).

07. Mateusz 'Mati' Papiernik - Polskie drogi (Polish roads: Melancholy and sentimental, in a good way. Beautiful.

08. Peyton - The Last Man Alive: Moving and haunting. I admire how you can sing and play at the same time; I can’t even talk while I’m playing. Too uncoordinated!

09. Monica K. - Fairest Lord Jesus: This was one of my favorite hymns when I was growing up. You play it beautifully, and I like the interludes between the iterations of the melody of the hymn.

10. Knotty - Just Friends - Improvisation Etude: That was really cool! I felt like I was at a jazz club, just chillin’.

11. Benny - Comptine d'un autre été: l'après-midi: Beautiful!

12. ohitpro - Morning Snowfall: Congratulations on your first recital entry! It is beautiful; I can see the snow falling gently…

13. b528nf7 - Bill - Ol' Man River: Nice job with an old standard, and I like how you added chorus in the latter part.

14. Riddler (Ed) - Rhapsody In Blue: Makes me want to fly United! I love this piece. Nicely done.

15. Kawaigirl1 - Winter Walk: As always, you play so beautifully. I’m on a peaceful winter walk with you, sounds like evening.

Wow, what a great experience. I have always been drawn to his music. I think I really wanted to play piano so that one day I could play his music.

Hi AWTPP,

I used a Steinway soundfont - the link was from one of mahlzeit's tutorials on MIDI conversion ( here ). It's a bright sample and I didn't spend any time tweaking the settings - maybe I'll do that for the next recital!

Let me know if you have other questions.

Regards,
ohitpro (Tom)

A few more:

16. flyingfroggy - Prelude in C# minor Op. 3 No. 2: Wow. Powerful and moving. Great job, transcends the old mic and laptop.

17. Orez Eno - Comptine d'un autre ete: l'apres-midi: Congratulations on overcoming your fear! And thank you for submitting this entry; you’ve done well.

18. glitzer - Petite valse from Kinderalbum: This is absolutely charming! I love music that is ostensibly for children; it’s accessible and you can do a lot with it.

19. Eternal - Right Here Waiting: Yes, everyone knows it, and you play it well. Thank you for sharing!

20. TrueBeginner - Les Reves Du Matin ( The Morning Dreams ): Sounds dreamy! Nice playing.

21. Laura D - Sonata K. 95, L. 358: What, no Partita in B flat?! This is really nice, clean playing, and the ornaments are great!

22. John Frank - Hava Nagila: Have two nagilas, indeed! Full of chutzpah, vim and verve!

23. Honnli / Steven - Suteki Da Ne / Isn't It Beautiful (Piano Collections): I love how beautiful music comes out of video games! Or at least some video games. Nicely played.

24. Casyopea - Radio Ballet: I can see why you are in love with this piece; it’s beautiful. You did a great job with it.

25. epf - La Styrienne (Op 100, No. 14): Playful! I like Burgmuller’s dances based on folk dance forms. This one is fun.

26. Diane Cornellier - Minuet in G: Very nice work at 6 months! I remember loving this piece when I started, too. Real music.

27. Serge88 – Imagine: Sensitively played, with feeling.

28. Seaside_Lee - What A Wonderful World: Beautiful rendition of a beautiful song. Pianomagic is magic!

29. Copper - Here There and Everywhere: I love this song; it makes me feel reminisce-y. Your playing of it has a wistful quality. Nice.

30. Mike White Yamaha G3 & P-80 – Granada: The left hand at the beginning sounds difficult! Reminiscent of a guitar strumming as accompaniment to the RH melody. You do it well.

Must go rake leaves for a while; more later.

01. Lisztener - "Gone" Your beautiful playing is a perfect compliment to the beautiful pictures. Thanks!

04. Ode2Joy - Prelude in F minor BWV 881 I am so glad you overcame your nerves and submitted this piece to the recital. You have a wonderful touch – It is a real joy to hear.

06. jazzyprof - Etude op.25 #1 (Aeolian Harp) Nicely played. Your piano sounds amazing.

08. Peyton - The Last Man Alive Nice job both playing and singing. The quality of the recording was also very good – clear and with excellent balance between your singing and playing.

09. Monica K. - Fairest Lord Jesus What a delightful piece and great performance – I love the way it starts slow and sweet and picks up in speed and passion.

10. Knotty - Just Friends - Improvisation Etude Really Nice!! I like watching you play this “live” on Youtube. You have a great style.

11. Benny - Comptine d'un autre été: l'après-midi Well played – you did an excellent job of maintaining tempo throughout the piece.

12. ohitpro - Morning Snowfall Great first entry!! I hope it is not your last. Wonderfully evocative piece that captures the feel of the first snowfall of the season. Left me wanting more.

14. Riddler (Ed) - Rhapsody In Blue Ed – I was looking forward to hear your rendition of one of my favorite pieces and was not disappointed. Well done – you got not only the notes right but also the emotion.

16. flyingfroggy - Prelude in C# minor Op. 3 No. 2 You are right – the quality of the recording is a little off but not the quality of the performance. You can really play!!

38. jotur - Cathy Turner - Stone's Rag Cathy – loved this rag. I also watched your videos on YouTube. You and your band looked like you were having a great time as did the dancers. I can picture them “clogging” to your great playing on this tune. Cool Ending!

64. AdagioM/Michele - Vals No. 1 from Valses Poeticos Very Impressive for “hardly playing the piano this year”. You obviously have great talent to turn in such a nice performance after such a layoff.

01. Lisztener - "Gone"

I have never played a piece in this genre. It sounds very flexible for expressing different moods and interpretations. Thanks. BTW the mistakes were few and far between.

02. dannylux / Mel - Glinka Nocturne in E flat

I have never played anything by Glinka. This piece has a lot of energy boiling around underneath despite the very calm overall structure. That's hard to capture, but you did.

03. AnthonyB - Stella Del Mattino

That RH is indeed hard to keep going. I can imagine it's difficult to keep the tension out of the forearm, especially while concentrating both on proper voicing and maintaining even tempo!

04. Ode2Joy - Prelude in F minor BWV 881

to this day, Bach scares me! OK, maybe I'll go dig out my WTC and work on one now. What a nice job. Only two years playing as a kid? I'm impressed!

05. Mr. super-hunky - *Magicland*

Love the syncopated voicing and the little arpeggiated riffs. Not creepy at all. The key shifts work beautifully to create a nice atmosphere. Actually, one of them reminds me a touch of Hotel California!

06. jazzyprof - Etude op.25 #1 (Aeolian Harp)

The 25/1 is a lot of fun (hey, that rhymes!). I have only played one etude, and that was a long long time ago. I don't know if I have the guts or stamina to try another! Thanks.

smile wow This is shaping up to be an awesome event.

First eleven comments.

01. Lisztener - "Gone" Expertly played and interpreted (No surprise); thank You for this most promising debut to the recital.

02. dannylux / Mel - Glinka Nocturne in E flat Played with grace, elegance and finesse. Quite moody, almost romantic. Thank You for this dreamy interpretation.

03. AnthonyB - Stella Del Mattino You’ve given us a slightly different interpretation of what’s becoming an ABF classic, a bit more energetic perhaps; very well done indeed.

04. Ode2Joy - Prelude in F minor BWV 881 To play Bach, You need discipline and musical intelligence. You abundantly demonstrate both. Thank You for this fine interpretation.

05. Mr. super-hunky - *Magicland* Your musical soul transpires more and more through Your compositions; thank You for sharing Your talent with us. Bravo.

06. jazzyprof - Etude op.25 #1 (Aeolian Harp) This was very good and very pleasant; thank You.

07. Mateusz 'Mati' Papiernik - Polskie drogi (Polish roads) Marvelous musicality that leaves me longing for the next note, the next phrase and fills me with emotions. Thank You.

08. Peyton - The Last Man Alive Admirable music and song; thank You for this enjoyable composition.

09. Monica K. - Fairest Lord Jesus The fairest of new age players now blesses us with an hymn from a new age composer wink Very inspiring interpretation; Thank You Monica.

10. Knotty - Just Friends - Improvisation Etude Loved it, loved it, loved it !!! Thank You.

11. Benny - Comptine d'un autre ÈtÈ: l'aprËs-midi I could feel You breathe with the music; very good interpretation indeed; thank You.

More to come...

Mongo recital! I'm loving it!

I started about half-way through, and was glad to see that that was jotur's piece because she's always so nice to me. I missed a couple in the middle and so will circle back to them with the others in due course.

38. jotur - Cathy Turner - Stone's Rag
Your pieces are always fun, and this one doesn’t disappoint. I’m very interested in your morphing rehearsed variations into improvisation. I guess if you have some riffs in your “vocabulary” then you can throw them in when you like. I’m not good at this, but I do find if I know a piece well enough to be well and truly sick of it, I can take a lot more liberties than if I’m still struggling with my memory. And I hear you about those rags being murder on your hands! Anyway, sounds great. Thanks for sharing it.

39. Euphonatrix - Album for the young Nr. 26 *** (untitled)
Pretty piece. I have a parrot too, so I had to laugh at your description of the vocals! I’ve been hearing about this suite of pieces from a friend, so I was glad you chose it. Nice.

40. Daren - Le Onde
Congratulations on your first recording. Very pretty piece and playing. I especially liked the way you bring out the right hand melody over the bass accompaniament. I do that too with the memorizing—I get it almost all the way there, and then when I record I put the music in front of me to keep me from panicking!

41. Pixie's friend - BWV Anh 131 (Notebook of Anna Magdalena Bach, n 32, untitled)
This was awesome, Pixie’s friend. You keep the temp even and really understand the importance of the melody. You’re doing really well. You must be very proud of your first recording.

42. WJ3 - Walt - Minuet in G Major
Goody, more Bach! You have a nice touch. I love this piece and you play it very well. Nice even rhythm. Your piano has a lovely tone as well. Congratulations on your first submission!

43. mahlzeit - After Watching A Sentimental Movie
Very moody and pensive. I admire your creativity immensely. Love that last chord.

44. Eighty8 - My One And Only Love
This is my kinda music. I love old torch songs, although I don’t remember this one. You give it kind of a dark and mysterious sound. Makes me want to learn the lyrics.

45. MarkL/Mark Leininger - Le Coucou (The Cuckoo)
I think you’ve got it exactly right. I think of my grandparent’s cuckoo clock. Precision and humor—you’ve got both.

46. Manndrew - You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To
Cole Porter. Hmmmm. I do like the rhythmic, syncopated bass line you’ve chosen. It gives the piece movement.

47. Greywullf - Trois Nouvelles Etude No. 3 in Ab
Wow, love those 2 against 3 rhythms. Those and your dynamics stood out for me. I enjoyed this piece at the Chopin Etudes recital as well, but this is even better.

48. Undone – Jim - Theme from Etude Op. 10, No 3.
Nice work Jim. In the future, don’t worry about duplicates with others. That’s part of the fun of the recital! But I’m glad you submitted this very musical version of a beautiful theme. I think your pedal work really made this sing for me.

49. RobM - Giorni Dispari
Sounds great. Don’t know what you have left for “someday”. Nice even tempo and the hands work together well.

50. GregF - Brahams's Lullaby
I think your chord additions were my favorite part of this piece. The second variation sounds just like a music box. Nice.

51. grotrianer - Prelude 28/17 A flat major
Wow, this was great. Only back at it for a month, huh? I predict great things. In addition to your exquisite playing, you’ve got a nice bass sound on your piano. I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to hearing many more submissions from you.

52. Deep Elem (aka Buck) - A House Is Not A Home
Relaxed and jazzy. I know what you mean about the chords. Crunchy and delicious. I love listening to your pieces.

53. babama - Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini, 18th variation (Rachmaninov, arrangement Pochacco)
Such a pretty melody. I’m embarrassed to say it always reminds me of one of my favorite movies, Groundhog Day. Very romantic rendition.

54. Always Wanted to Play Piano - Ombre
This was lovely. If I were you, I wouldn’t point out mistakes. We all make them, but sometimes they slip by unnoticed to those who don’t know the music as well as you do. wink This was an ambitious undertaking for someone who has been playing for less than a year, and you rose beautifully to the challenge.

55. mlr1899 - Swipesy
Fun! Nice lilting tempo. Makes me want to hop on a carousel. I love me a good rag, and this is a good rag. Love that moving bass part on this one. Congratulations on your first recital. Can hardly wait for your next one.

56. rustyfingers - Sentimental Journey
Spent each dime I could afford…

57. DragonPianoPlayer - Allegro
Fancy fingerwork there. You brought the tune out nicely.

58. Ozor Mox - The Portrait
This is a beautiful recording. Your father must have been so pleased that you learned it for him. It is a lovely piece.

59. Schubertian - Prelude #13 (F# Major)
Pretty, romantic, and with lots of feelings. The rubato is just right. Lovely.

60. Babs - Prelude in B Minor (op28,no.6)
I found your recording of this piece very moving, Babs. You did indeed do a nice job of bringing out that left hand melody. Funny how composers are coming in pairs in this recital!

61. Oxfords Gal - Clowns OP 39 No. 20
What a lively change of pace! You played it very well with humor and energy.

62. bluekeys - Sonata in C (K545)
I love this piece, and you did a great job on it. Nice even tempo, good trills and even interplay between the left and right hand parts.

63. Euan Morrison - Vesper (from Casino Royale)
Evocative, moody. Great pictures by the way.

70. Hisalone (Joel) - Bumble Boogie
Whee! How fun is this? You have a great sense of rhythm!

71. Mark... - Spooky Story & American Hymn
Ooh I especially like Spooky Story. This was fun.

72. Mar_red - Moon River
Very singable. I loved your story, and I can tell by your playing you’re enjoying being back at the piano. I especially liked your steady tempo and the way you bring out the melody over your triplets.

73. IPIBAHN - Sandy - Tarantella - Prokofiev
Fun to play, and fun to listen to as well. Dancing, dancing.

74. bruceee - Prelude Op 28, No 20
Such a sad piece. Lovely. I was first introduced to it when I heard it as the intro to Barry Manilow’s “Could it Be Magic.” That’s how unsophisticated I was. Lovely.

75. etorrales - Nocturn in Eb Major
This was lovely. From the beginning to the end, the relaxed tempo had me spellbound. Thanks for submitting it. One of my favs.

If I had ever learnt, I should have been a great proficient.

More! More!

GregF - how beautiful, and the extra arpeggios really added to it. Your daughter will treasure a CD for the rest of her life.

Always Wanted To Play Piano - very nice feeling to this, very open, solitude. And don't you have a fairly new baby, too? How about a CD for him smile ?

DragonPianoPlayer - another wonderful Baroque submission, and again, finely played. I love your repertoire, the pieces you play are from a favorite era of music for me.

Schubertian - lovely. But were your additional comments meant to be lyrics? I couldn't get them to fit the piece -

Babs - congratulations on your recording - you did exactly what the piece needed - what a wonderful left hand! (I'm a big left hand fan smile ) This was really atmospheric - very lyrical.

bluekeys - oh, I'm entranced. I love Mozart anyway, and this was so sparkly and Mozartian - excellent! And trills - yet another piece of my musical abilities that is non-existant.

Euan Morrison - I've never heard hugging-in-the-shower music before, but I liked the interplay between the two hands very much, and it was really well-played.

AdagioM/Michele - ech, blogging. I got addicted this year, am hoping to slowly wean myself laugh This was such a nice piece, and your playing is very assured, very much a pianist. I liked it a lot.

cscl - another piece I like very much, and very nicely done - no abuse of the ears at all. I like the lively tempo - a little tripping the light fantastic there in the first movement. The second movement was a nice contrast.

polostrings - I love the kid at the beginning smile Nice intro. Big Book of Ballads, huh? How many volumes in the "Big Book of . . ." series do you and Kawai, HI have wink ? You did a great job on this - I can tell you, I wasn't anywhere near that musical after 2 years.

Kawai, HI - oh, this was cool! I like the little "plomp" ending, too.

Mark... - nice rhythm and accents on Spooky Story. Oh, "When We Gather at the Ri - ver" - another wonderful old hymn! You had me singing along - the beau-tiful, the beau-tiful ri-ver - that flows by the throne of God. Thank you, thank you for playing this!

Mar-red - was a professional rendition - and just the right atmosphere.

IPIBAHN - Sandy - I was looking forward to this, knowing we'd get another lively piece, and I wasn't disappointed. But how *do* you keep such a quick left hand going at the same time as the quick right hand? I'd have to practice the rest of my life - Nicely done.

brucee - lovely, lovely - I love the quietness of this piece. My older brother just went to Wellington - he has a daughter in Koro Koro and a son in Petone. I was there for 3 weeks earlier this year and loved taking the train in to Wellington and wandering around Te Papa, the Botanical Gardens, Old St Paul's, the bookstores on Lambton Quay. I took the train from Wellington to Auckland, too, and loved all the scenery. I hope to make it back in the next couple of years.

dannylux/Mel - you never disappoint. This piece, and your playing, is really what I like in piano-music-to-listen-to-while-on-a-Saturday-afternoon-at-home. Very nice.

Ode2Joy - well, there can never be too much Bach for my taste. You did a great job on this - I'm looking forward to future recital pieces.

jazzyprof - this was great! It's such a lush piece, and you played it well.

Peyton - I look forward to your pieces each time, and your lyrics are always well-put-together. These are kind of poignant. The piano part was good, too, but I'm another that has yet to figure out how to sing at the time, and you do it with pretty complex piano accompaniment. Very nice.

ohitpro - what a lovely little piece! you have a very nice touch, and played this just right.

glitzer - this is actually a waltz, and makes me want to waltz! That, I think, is a difficult thing to do, and you have that gift. Really great!

This is a really fun recital -

Boy, that is part of the trick, isn't it? 15 years ago I thought I had to have a new tune every week to keep from getting bored - and then I discovered that knowing tunes so well that I was bored with them really freed up the creativity and groove. Our band can really rip on some tunes we've been playing for 8 or 9 years, now, and it's so much fun!

Bill Evans talked about that on the Marian McPartland Pianojazz radio show. He said he'd rather play 1 tune for 24 hours than 24 tunes for an hour each. It forces you to get creative. I definitely subscribe to this theory also, although it's tough sometimes when I just hit a wall and can't think of anything else to do with the song. But that's the time I should keep trying...

20. TrueBeginner - Les Reves Du Matin ( The Morning Dreams ) I think you are way too hard on yourself. The piece was played beautifully. I am amazed that you played this from memory. It sounds quite complex but you pulled it off flawlessly. I love the way you ended it.

24. Casyopea - Radio Ballet I love watching folks play on Youtube – great video. I added my 5 star rating to the others’.

25. epf - La Styrienne (Op 100, No. 14) I don’t know – I listened to it twice and didn’t hear any of your self-described “small mistakes”. I thought it was very well done. Thanks!
