Hi everyone - I stumbled across this forum last night and was so glad to find a group of people like me - older piano students! I'm 43, and have wanted to play piano since I was a little girl. But no money, then no time. My oldest son, who is 23 now, began piano at age 7, went to Shorter College in Organ & Piano, and now is a piano teacher at a studio. And finally, I'm taking advantage of his gifts and abilities and learning!

I started around Thanksgiving, and have been practicing like crazy. My other kids think it's funny how obsessed I've become, even looking up music history to read. :-)

I'm currently working on some easy piano classics - Bach's Minuet in G & Little Prelude, Straebogg's Little Fairy Waltz, and some easy hymns.

It's truly a dream realized.

Welcome to the forum, RealizingMyDream! smile That is *way* cool that you are learning from your son. What a special way to share some time together. But I have to warn you... piano obsession is a progressive disease. laugh

Welcome, I too raised my teacher. Love it when she talks to me in her teacher voice.

Again, welcome.

Hi there, RealizingMyDream, and let me say welcome to the ABF from a fellow Georgian!

And, congratulations to you and your son regarding both of your musical accomplishments. I can relate to your situation to an extent; I taught my oldest son how the play the guitar when he was a youngster and now he is almost a semi-pro Blues-Rock player with his own band. His guitar playing skills have far exceeded any that I may have had at any given time. smile

I too have fallen in love with the piano in the last few years (in my old age of 51 smile ).

I look forward to reading your contributions here.

Take care and Happy New Year!

Rick

Welcome!
I'm glad you are finally realizing your dream!
I am close to your age and have a son who just turned 18. Even during the difficult teen years we were always able to relate to each other through music. He plays guitar, bass and a little bit of piano.

Now I am also finally realizing my dream.

Welcome! That's wonderful that you've started lessons and are enjoying them. I started lessons again this past June at age 42 and have been having been enjoying them immensely. I took lessons as a kid for about two years and have wanted to start again for the last 10 or so years. Switching to a job in academia has given me the time to finally pursue this dream. It's so nice to have this forum to share our piano adventures.

Welcome to the forum! I always hear about the great programs at Shorter College, but I haven't been there for anything. I hope your son is enjoying his piano teaching career. It truly is a calling.

Several people who take lessons with my teacher began as adults, and they are all making wonderful progress. It's a very satisfying pursuit, and it's a lot of fun to see them play at our adult recital parties.

I'm amazed--I think the state of Georgia is taking over this forum!

Nancy
