I'm facing down my fears and playing in a Christmas recital tonight (on my wedding anniversary, too!). I try and do this every so often to get past the stage fright. Not too bad right now, but there's still a few hours to go....

T-minus 1 hr. 45 minutes and I'm not shaking yet. I think I'm feelin' the love!

You'll do great. Just remember this: You will be nervous. That is normal. Don't sweat it, and just keep playing. Your audience will have no idea how nervous you are, and they will not notice any mistakes.

Thanks, guys! Just home and it went pretty well. I kept the nerves under better control than years past, even with a much larger audience than we've had previously.

I must say, though, that those cute little six year olds, who coincidentally are MY computer students at a local elementary school (can't wait for the critique from the kindergartners tomorrow), are a very tough act to follow. Those sweet little velvet and taffeta dresses, hair bows, and patent leather shoes...you can forgive A LOT of wrong notes when the cute little pianist's feet don't touch the floor when they're seated on the bench!!

My Jim Brickman arrangement of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" went quite well, only a few very minor mistakes.

My second piece, "We Three Kings" (done in the style of Franz Liszt) went well for the first 3/4. The second to last line has this alternate hand, down-the-scale run that took me some time to learn and, you guessed it, that's where it fell apart. I floundered around for a couple of seconds, glossed over it and finished up with the big chords that sound SO nice on a long grand.

Oh, well...no regrets, it's done and I'm actually fairly pleased with the results. And, there's always NEXT year. Recital's over; NOW I can play my holiday music for fun!
