Frank & Kathy's Excellent Piano Adventures in New York, Part I !

Rotunda at Steinway Hall
Steinway Hall Rotunda Kathy and I flew up to New York Sunday (Sept. 23) for a special event we were invited to (more on that later).
I happened to post something about the trip on Facebook, and our good friend Robin Goldsby (Robin Meloy Goldsby of "Piano Girl" book fame) suggested we visit Steinway Hall while we were in town. As it happens we were staying at a hotel just a few blocks from the Hall.
Robin has a close friend named Betsy Hirsch who is a sales rep at Steinway Hall so she put us in touch with Betsy.

Monday morning we met Betsy at Steinway Hall on West 57th in New York. Betsy is one of those people you can't help likeing (much like Robin). She is very warm, open, and honest, not to mention talented and funny (now I know why they are friends).
Betsy took us on a tour of the Hall, showing us all the wonderful instruments and historic pieces. We even got to go down into the basement where they keep all the concert grands artists use when they come to town. Each is numbered because the artists have their preferences and they get the one they really like.

Estonia 210 Debut NY

Frank & Kathy's piano adventure in New York continues.
You may have seen our thread on the Piano Forums about Visiting Steinway Hall in NY

That was just the beginning of our day, and while we had a great time visiting at Steinway, the primary reason we were in New York was to celebrate the debut of the new Estonia Model 210 Grand Piano.

Our good friend Indrek Laul, president of the Estonia Piano Company invited us to join in the festivities with the added enticement of an opportunity to meet the President of the Republic of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves. As if that wasn't enough, we also had the pleasure of hearing (and meeting) concert pianist Mihkel Poll of Tallinn, Estonia (one of our favorite places in the world) an amazing young pianist who plays with deep emotion and incredible technique.

Adding to all this was the fact the event was being hosted by our friends Ori & Rebecca Bukai of Allegro Piano, and that a number of our friends from the piano industry would also be there and you have the makings of one amazing evening.

And best of all, we got to share it with my sister Barbara Wadsworth and my niece Michelle Wadsworth.

What? You don't know what a Piano Forums Party is?
Essentially it's an opportunity for members to meet each other with no pressure. The parties are usually held at a member's home, and everyone brings a little something (pot luck style, or just ask the host). Each member (and/or their guest) takes a turn playing the piano. Nobody judges anybody's playing, it isn't a contest. It's a chance to share a common interest in pianos and piano music.
We really love to have pictures and comments posted after the event.

If you'd like to get some ideas from past Piano Forums Parties (as well as tours, cruises, and more), Check Out This Area On the Forums
Multiple Accounts - A No-No!

Please do not create multiple accounts on our forums!

The practice is deceptive and could get you banned. There are very few exceptions to this rule, and they must be approved on a case-by-case basis.
If more than one person in your household wants to log onto the forums with their own account, please be sure to contact a moderator or me directly BEFORE they create their account. We track all IP addresses and automatically receive reports when multiple accounts show up against one IP.

Even so, you may find it interesting to pop into the Piano Tuner-Technician's forum, or the Teachers Forum occasionally just to see what is going on.

Or maybe drop in on the Digital Piano Forum to see what the latest keyboards are all about and what people are saying about them.

Did you even know we have an entire section of forums Just For Fun?
That's right, a collection of forums of stuff just for fun.

And one just for Composers

Than we have the Mechanical Music Forum for discussions about player pianos, nickelodeons, music boxes, and other mechanical musical instruments.

There's even one for Organs including electronic (think B3), theater, and pipe.

And don't forget to check Active Topics (see links at top of forums page) This shows you the most active discussions going on right now.

If that's not enough, try our Directory for information about some of the other 1000+ pages of Piano World. You'll even find music related jigsaw puzzles you can do online, and music word searches we created.
